pet scan changed everything

My doctor called with the results of the PET scan and said a few cancer spots were found in my small intestine, but no where else in my body.:clap We already knew about the small intestine, because the surgeon had removed a few nodules during the emergency resection i had in Sept. They feel that this cancer spread from the original vaginal tumor thru the blood stream into the intestines. The tumor had perforated the rectum so the blood stream carrried it thru the digestive tract. The pet scan also showed that my intestines would not be able to withstand abdominal radiation because all the scar tissue from both surgeries could lead to blockages, twisting or rupture. Before the cancer was found in the upper intestine they had just planned to do pelvic radiation where the original tumor was, even though the lymph nodes were fine and there is no evidence of cancer there. They have decided to treat me with chemo alone and I will discuss this with the chemo doctor later today. Those last two emergency hospitizations happened days before I was to start raiation which would have targeted the wrong area and probably killed me. I am really learning to trust God in all this, and trust Him even more when things hurt and confuse most.

Indeed, God was Watching You

Now you will get the right treatment which you wouldn't have were it not for the PET scan. A big er for you that this chemo will chase the rest of those cells right out of your system for good!

s Debbie

Your journey sure has been bumpy. I greatly admire your courage. I'm glad you were able to have the PET scan done. At least now you can avoid the problems that radiation would have caused. When you find out what chemo drugs you will be receiving, let us know. Some of us are always ready to share our chemo tips.
You are always in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm so glad you were able to get things clarified through the PET scan. Everything sure does happen for a reason eh?

I hope whatever type of chemo you're given is easy on you but lethal for those remaining cells.

Keep us posted when you can. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
