I was worried about the hot flashes happening again. I got my results on my hormone levels- fsh-80.9 and my estrogen level is 15. The nurse informed me that I'm now in menapause!! AHHH!
I'll go in for an ultrasound this Friday to see why my right ovary is enlarged and tender. I am now taking Black Cohosh and progesterone cream. Is there something better out there, especially if I'm in menapause..... Lisa

Protect those bones!!!

They say the worst bone loss occurs in the first year following menopause. I don't think the black cohash is estrogen based.
I would definately look into it.
I just ordered compounded bio-identical estrogen/progesterone today that a PA wrote me a script for.
There are many types of estrogen and it may take some tweaking to find one that makes you feel the best, but please do not go unprotected.
If you are into natural, I would try and find a medical professional who knows about this stuff.
Chances are if you are in a medium sized city there is a compounding pharmacy, and they would be able to direct you to someone who prescribes them.

Hugs,

Shazz

Lisa,
Black Cohosh can help with hot flashes, but it does not replace estrogen. I do take black cohosh along with my estrogen. Did your doctor mention perhaps starting on some estrogen replacement?

You should also be sure and take a calcium supplement. There's a good list of supplements here www.hormonejungle.com/supp.php

Shazz mentions Compounding Pharmacies and if you'd like to learn more about them this site www.iacprx.org has some good information. They also have a pharmacy locator.

Good luck with the ultrasound.
