Upcoming hysterectomy 4/26: Can I do this with moving?

Hello HysterSisters, I am thankful to be here! Last week I had an appointment and scheduled a robotic hysterectomy with an obgyn oncologist for next Monday. I was in the process of evaluation to get an endometrial ablation done as I have been struggling with heavy cycles/anemia/iron infusions and in the midst of testing they found internal cervical cysts/possibly adenoma malignum so I became a candidate for hysterectomy. My regular obgyn did do a cervical biopsy but could not get a good enough sample of the tissue so she just referred me to oncology to let them do the hysterectomy where he can also biopsy during the procedure, saving me a potential extra step or another surgery which I am so thankful for because we are MOVING real soon!
My procedure is April 26th, and because my husband is Navy and we have orders, we already have everything planned for our move. Our closing is before we are able to check out so we are moving to an airbnb on May 22 for a few weeks before we check out on June 20 and head to our next destination a few states away. THANKFULLY we have movers to pack everything but I am still concerned about how I will be feeling through all of this. Our movers come 24 days post op and then we head to the airbnb at 26 days post op. We will be there while I recover and I’ll be 7 almost 8 weeks post op by the time we leave. I’m open to any and all advice and encouragement about getting through move during recovery. I feel that I would rather be getting it done here while I’m established with my doctors instead of starting over on the other side, in another state, with new ones.

I wanted to add that I do walk/bike several times a week (leisurely) and have been attending pelvic therapy for the last 2 months so am feeling as strong as I can be, besides the fact that I am overweight and have some autonomic issues.

Hi StefaniePit to HysterSisters!

I am so glad you found this site.

This certainly is not the most ideal situation, but you are probably stuck with it, given your situation.

At the time of your move, you will be about 4 weeks post op. You will probably be short on stamina and may tire easily. You may even be sore, and will not necessarily be in the mood to deal with much. Make sure your doctor knows what is going on to see if there will be any specific restrictions. You will have lifting restrictions: 10 lbs for 6 weeks and 20 lbs for 8 weeks is typical. A gallon of milk weighs 8.5 lbs. So, do not do any lifting or moving of boxes, and remember the same restrictions will apply to pushing or pulling. Putting away items may also fall to your DH, with you directing on where to put items. You will also have driving restrictions - perhaps 2 or 3 weeks.

Get as much help from family/friends as you can.

Re: Can I do this with moving?

Definitely not ideal, as Marestail stated. You’re leaving your current place at 3 weeks post op for an Airbnb, it’s doable as long as you remember your priority is healing, R&R!
At week three my body had ways of letting me know I was still healing. I was only taking a couple short walks outdoors a day and puttering around the house. My level of ‘housework’ was changing the toilet paper roll. I’m only 9 weeks now, but the past few weeks have been great, and I feel better than I did pre-surgery (thank you anemia). I’m still building stamina and my lifting restrictions aren’t up until week 12 (doctor is quite conservative). Mind your doctors recommendations, you only get one opportunity to recover.
