Hi leejambrose,
If you look at the top message on the pre-op message board there is a link to abreviations. I think you can find the answer there.
Best wishes

Let's just make our own. SVH sounds right to me. subtotal vaginal hysterectomy
How's that for inventiveness?
I'm sure we have several in the medical profession that will help you out.

Silly question
Are you saying that you are having a vaginal hysterectomy and keeping the cervix? I've heard of subtotal abdominal hysterectomy or laproscopic supracervical (partial) hysterectomy when the cervix is kept but never a partial vaginal one. The term hysterectomy refers to removal of the uterus. When one has a total hysterectomy it's removal of uterus and cervix. I was told because of my hysterectomy being vaginal I couldn't keep my cervix as it's only the size of a coat button and the uterus can't go through it. Is there a new technique to save the cervix this way?

never silly
I believe if I am correct, any ladies correct me if I am wrong but TVH is the removal of your uterus and possibly your cervix if you elect to have it taken. For years I thought a hyst was everything out but when I found out I had to have one, I found out differently. The abbreviation here: BSO or RSO or LSO designate if you had both tubes & ovaries or just right or left tubes and ovaries. I hope this helps. Nothing is a silly question around here, I can't believe how much I have learned that I just didn't know or hadn't thought of. So keep the ??? coming, lots of ladies here to help

Silly question
T stands for total, or uterus including cervix. V stands for vaginal. So a TVH is a total vaginal hyst.
Techniques may have improved, but like Karen said, if the hyst is being done vaginally they remove the uterus through the cervix and the only way to do it is by removing the cervix also.
Maybe if they're doing a lap assisted vag hyst (LAVH) they can save the cervix.
It's a good idea to check with your DR and find out exactly what you signed authorizations for.
Best wishes!

also made my own abbreviation
I changed my mind and decided to keep the cervix, so now it is vaginal, but with laparoscope so I'm going with LAVH. Keeping ovaries also, my endo is really mild.
Email me about your prolapse if you want, I am having a rapid decline and Wierd things happening. Surgery day after Christmas.
