8 weeks post hysterectomy and back pain

Anyone else have back pain ? I’m wondering if it’s related . I feel like it has something to do with my core?

Re: 8 weeks and back pain

and likely. We tend to use our backs more to compensate for weak and / or tender abs. Early on for me, just sitting up at my job could cause it; later, easily through 2 months, I'd get back pain just from doing more. One time it was an 18-hour day of taking my teen daughter and some of her friends to an outdoor concert after working a half-day. Fun time, but I could feel those 18 hours in my swollen belly and tired back!

Re: 8 weeks and back pain

I'm only 4 days postop, but had expected the back problems. My preop nurse and I even talked about how during surgery they have to push and prod our bodies to get in positions for the procedure.
I've herniated all of my lumbar disc on 2 separate occassions in the past. I find that movement is most helpful for my particular back problems, and "taking it easy" postop is not helping. On the bright side, I'm probably less risk for blood clots and pneumonia since I keep making myself move for my back.

With approval from your surgeon, I recommend Pilates, a system of gentle exercises specifically designed to restore core strength after something like this. For fast relief of back pain, I recommend applying heat with a heating pad, a hot water bottle, or a pinch of cayenne pepper added to your favourite moisturizer. For greater comfort when sitting, I recommend a small pillow behind the curve in your lower back. For walking, I recommend properly designed walking shoes, because the wrong footwear can cause pain to be transmitted from your feet up into your lower back. Best wishes for finding fast relief, and for continued health and healing!
