Last Week of Chemo

Well this Monday will be my last dose of cistplatin. Praise the Lord. I only have 3 doses of radiation left as well, barring the machine breaking down. (Pray that the machine will stay up and running for those 3 days) They have said something about booster treatments of radiation, but my rad onc said nothing about that.

But he did say that I will be doing an internal treatment. That will be some time in January, debating on doing it b4 or after my birthday jan 15. Those of you that have had an internal treatment can you let me know how it went and how you felt afterwards. I do not want to be sick on my birthday. I want to be able to party harty. For obivious reasons. I would like to have it done before, just to have it done and overwith. But I want to be able to celebrate the big 40 CANCER FREE.

So those of you that have went thru internal radiation for cervical cancer, please, please let me know how it went.

LOVE to all

Hi,
I had three internal radiation treatments and 25 external treatments as part of the therapy for my endometrial cancer. Do you know if you are having high dose brachytherapy or the low dose variety?

High dose brachytherapy, the type that I had, is done on an out-patient basis. The procedure for this was pretty simple. A plastic cyliner was inserted vaginally and was then connected to the radioactive source. Each treatment lasted about 20 minutes and was virtually painless. I had no side effects from the internal treatments and found them to be very tolerable.

Low dose brachytherapy is more involved and requires you to be admitted to the hospital in a lead-lined room for 1-2 days with the radioactive source placed internally for the duration of your stay. I think the effciacy of each method is similar, and the choice really comes down to your doctor's personal preference.

Good Luck!

Congrats on your last treatment, I remember it was a GREAT feeling to get that done and over with. I hope you have minimal (or better yet NO) side effects and hope that your radiation treatment will be completed sooner than later so you can relax and enjoy your birthday.

Sending lots of 's and positive thoughts your way.

{{hugs}}
