Anemia

Just had my 4 week post-op yesterday. Everything is going great . The Dr. did a blood count and my hemoglobin level has dropped since surgery putting me in the anemic category. I have not had any bleeding post op. She sent me for some more blood tests but have not heard from them yet.
Have any of you experienced this post-op?

Thanks,

Joanna

my hemocrit dropped in the castle

for some unexplainable reason. Didn't have it checked again until six weeks post op and it was back to normal levels by then.

I don't like the constipating effects of iron supplements, so I compensated with diet. One of those women that think liver is good, so I ate a lot. I indulged my cravings for rare roast beef too. One eight ounce glass of prune juice has 10% of the RDA for iron. Raisins and prunes, green leafy veggies, meat, all good sources of iron.

Post op recovery makes high demands on us nutritionally. Do your best to compensate and if an iron supplement is okay by you, go for it.
