I just got my date (Jan. 20) and I am scared to death. What can I expect? There are so many things going through my head. No one seems to understand what I am going through. Is this normal? Help!!!

got my date and I scared

Ford, I know how you feel, I am a new princess as of Dec. 16. I was scared to death of everything as well, thought that I wouldnt make it out of surgery bleeding to death ,saving ovaries, menopause, who will clean my house, can I take the time off work, as you can see I was stressed. My surgery went very well, and not nearly as painful as I had anticipated(left hospital with no pain meds) my only problem has been the gas pains which are now under control. so.....just to let you know your fears are normal, and you do just fine. Take care of you and soon you too will have your shiny new crown.

you will do wonderful

got my date and I scared

Welcome to Hystersisters!

While I'm sorry you are having to face surgery, I'm glad you found this site. There is a wealth of information, support and caring here from many women who know exactly what you are going through.

If you haven't found them already, there are Pull-Down Menus at the bottom of the home page that have a lot of good information for pre-op, post-op and beyond. Read as much as you can and post any questions that come up for you. The more you know, the better prepared you will feel for your surgery.

The road to hysterectomy can really take it's toll on you emotionally. I found that some of my friends could not relate to what I was going through either. It is such a personal process. I found this site about a month before my surgery and it more than made up for the support and information that I needed.

Hang in there. You are not alone!

I understand

Ford:

Here on this website, you will soon discover that all of us have felt the same way you are feeling now. Rest assure, you will be fine.

I am a newly crowned princess (December 12, 2002), and like you, I started a post "Scared to Death", so I know how you feel. However, my fellow "sisters" on this website put my fears to rest and when I went to the "Castle" I was a lot more calmer and I thank the tremendous support I have received from this website for that.

We tend to put ourselves through so many stressors and worries when we face this type of surgery. There were times when I was angry, scared, frustrated. I worried just about worrying.

Please feel free to join our chatting sessions. I'm quite positive that you will receive reassurance and relief from whatever it is that is cumbersome to you right now.

But think positive, Ford. Just think in less than a month, you can say goodbye to all of the pain and bleeding, and by summer, you'll be a brand new woman. Your health will be so much better than what it is now.

In the meantime, enjoy yourself and have a blessed holiday.

Bless your heart! You are not alone. I was in your shoes not too long ago. I am now 5 week post op and although it was not easy, I made it just fine. I was literally scared to pieces. The worst part is the "waiting for surgery" time. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Everything will be fine!

I was so scared and I drove my family crazy during the weeks of waiting. I'm 4 weeks post-op and I feel wonderful. I stayed on pain medications for only 7 days! I've been up moving around since the second day. I wasted lots of time worrying instead of looking forward to the six weeks off of work and tons of time to enjoy the peace and quiet.

Any questions, I'll try to answer them.
