Looking for support in N. California

I am at week five, I had a TAH for adenocarcinoma stage 1A. Since my cancer was at such a low stage and I did not have chemo or radiation I was discourage by the nurse from attending a gyn cancer support group because she thought I would not be able to relate to the others who had a higher stage of cancer. I am feeling like I want to attend some kind of support group just to work through some fears I have about having survived cancer. I am 37 and though my friends are wonderfully supportive none of them have been through this experience. I feel like it all happened so fast and I don't have a way to process it. My question to you all in the SF Bay Area is if you know of any support groups, yoga classes, etc. that might be good for me and my situation. I just feel like I need connect with others who have been through cancer. I live in Oakland, close to Berkeley and San Francisco and don't want to drive to far. If anyone has been to a group they like, especially a group for my age that would be nice to hear about.

Thanks!

Looking for support in N. California

Hi,
Although I don't know anyone in the bay area (I am from NY) in the meantime, until you find a group please feel to email me. I had a TVH a year ago for adenocarcinoma stage 1A and have been through quite a range of emotions this year.

Hi Claudia.
I do not live in your area either. I am from New York..However, I do know how you feel. I am a cancer survivor and an extremely grateful to everyone for everything. Recently, my friends husband was diagnosed with non hodgkins lymphoma and I have become his mentor. We are both getting support from each other. Another thing to do is check with your local hospital. I do believe that they have cancer support groups.
Good Luck and keep in touch.

I found one in Walnut Creek

at the Wellness Comminity--pghone is 510-933-0107. Meets third Thursday of the month 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There has to be more in your area! I'd say call your local American Cancer Society office

By digging deeper, I found another place to try--they should know. Univ. of California at San Francisco, Mt. Zion Cancer Center, 415-885-3610 or PO Box 1702 San Francisco 94143. They may have a group or could refer to one.
