Diet prior to surgery

Just wondering what you recommend for the diet the week of surgery. I go in on Friday AM next week and people are telling me all kinds to things to eat and not to eat. My Dr. has told me to eat lighter but that is about all. I am being told just eat jello and soup all week and I will feel better post op. Any suggestions would be appericated. This is such a great place, it has helped me to prepare in ways I would have never thought of.

Diet prior to surgery

One lady I know told me that she went on a liquid/jello diet for the weekend before her Monday surgery and she felt great afterward...no constipation, etc. I was going to do this, but I have a will-power problem!

I would suggest staying away from gassy and constipating foods for a couple of days before your surgery, you know...no mexican food, beans, bananas, peanut butter, etc.

Good luck!

Diet prior to surgery

If you need clarification from your DR call and ask exactly what s/he means by eating lightly.

Don't starve yourself, and make sure you maintain a balanced healthy diet, along with liquids.

I had a pepperoni pizza the night before my TAH/BSO with no problems, but the only dietary restrictions I was given was no food after midnight.

Best wishes.

You don't need to do anything special for a whole WEEK!

I really don't think you need to do anything special for a whole WEEK. If you're doing bowel prep you just follow the doctor's instructions, which won't start until two days before surgery. Otherwise, I would check with the doctor if you have questions, but my interpretation of eating light would be not eating a lot. If you aren't doing a bowel prep then eating soft foods and liquids for a day or so might help you be more comfortable after. Don't have a turkey dinner with all the trimmings the night before surgery!!

Diet

Hi

I suppose everyone is different, but I did not go on any special diet the week before my surgery. I do stick to a healthy diet, but I splurged and ate what I wanted the week before because I knew I was going to lose weight afterward!

I was told to eat a light lunch and dinner the day before and nothing after midnight. I was fine, I did not have any nausia and I was not constipated or gassy, no problems there!

Good luck.

Terri
