On the road again!!!

Dearest sisters, happy new year to you all!! I posted frequently pre and post hysterectomy (22 March 2002) and found all the advice and support a great comfort. I now need you all again.

A month or so ago I went back to see my dr. because I was bleeding post intercourse - turned out to be granulation which was easily fixed with silver nitrate. While I was there I mentioned the fact that I had been experiencing cyclical pain and some pain with intercourse. I wish I hadn't as the symptoms wouldn't have been worth a visit in themselves, I just thought I'd mention them and make him earn his money!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, he did an ultrasound and discovered that I had a cyst on my one remaining ovary. I went t a specialist female ultrasound doc who dicovered two cysts. Went back to first doc today who did another USound and the cyst is still thereHe told me to have another US with doc number 2 in three months and if the cyst hasn't resolved then he'll have to go in there again as it would be the only way to make 100% sure that it isn't malignant. He said that, because of all the scar tissue he would have to do a laparotomy - does this sound right to you dear sisters? I have been working so hard at the gym and am so much fitter, I hate the thought of having to spend weeks recovering once again. I shouldn't really worry about it until the next appointment. Here's hoping that it's gone!!

On the road again!!!

Diana,
I am actually recovering right now from a laparotomy done on 12-26-02. I had my TAH 4-97 . Then in 4-2002 they removed my remaining ovary and I thought, ok great I am done! However a couple weeks ago I went to the ER for severe pain on the right side -thought maybe appendix, kidney stone etc. but a CT Scan showed a hemmoragic cyst where my ovary used to be. Doctor says it was left over ovarian tissue- everything is fine. Just need to adjust the hormones again as he took me off the estrogen to see if the cyst would shrink, additionally he thinks I wasn't taking enough for my age (31)
Good luck to you. As far as recovery I understand I was going to the gym daily and had recently lost 13 pounds. I will be off work for about 6 weeks and stayed in the hospital for 3 days.

(((Dawnee)))

Don't get in too much of a panic just yet. Cysts can and do resolve on their own. I am 11 weeks post op from a TAH/LSO and found out 2 weeks ago that I have multiple simple cysts on my remaining ovary. put me on bc pills for a time to let the ovary "rest" and is confident that they will resolve on their own. I have had some continued pain on the left side which she feels is possible the return of adhesions/scar tissue. She said that if the pain continued she could go in laparoscopically and lysis them, use mesh or gel, and even remove the remaining ovary if it was still cystic. IMHO, wait it out and maybe they will resolve....if they don't, look for a doc that will do in laparoscopically. Good luck!
