Wondering about next step

Hello and Happy New Years to all,

I'm shy and don't chime in much, so here is a brief re-cap. Hyster (LAVH) for CIS, cervical and uterine, 12-01, was doing great till 8-02 when pap and colop found CIS vaginal. In Oct, oncologist tried internal chemo with 5-FU, had systemic reaction and had to stop after 3 treatments and it didn't do anything. And here we come to my problem.
The oncologist told me in Sept that he couldn't do laser (I asked, thinking it had to be a small spot), because it was to wide spread. In his words, scale of 1-10, it's an 8.
When I went in last month, he is kind of is talking, while he is up there and tells me AGAIN that he can't do laser to remove the biggest tumor or what ever, that he can now see just eye-balling it. It's in a bad postion, right next to my bladder, equitment problems with getting to it, ect, might go though the bladder, sever bleeding and so on. THEN HE SAYS " Let's schudule surgery"! So I ask if this will be the end of it, thinking this is an easy out, un, no. So what happened to the raditation that you told me was coming up next, I ask. I don't want to do that because you could possibly never be able to have sex again.
Anyway, I thought it was **** funny, cause I know several of you have had radiation and still have sex.
I'm to the point I don't know what to think. He is concidered very good, is the head of his department at the nearest major hospital , but I still have to wonder.
He has told me twice he can't do it and has me lined up for pre-op on the 7 and surgery on the 9th.
Sorry I have misspelled so many words and rambled on, but this is driving me crazy.
It (laser surgery) isn't going to cure it, but it's what we are going to do. Then we will figure out what to do next. Just give me the next and be done with it. Also, never has anyone looked at anything else. I am so tired that I can only work for 3 hours in the morning, then I have to rest the rest of the day. That in it's self, it driving me nuts. Yes I have told a couple of doctors this and they think it's emotional. I've been emotional, this is not the problem.
Sorry this got longer, any thoughts on this would be apprieatted.

Pam,
I know I sound like a broken record, but are you going to a gyn/onc. If not, I'd find one. Even if he/she is a gyn/onc, I'd get a second opinion. Some other ladies have had the same cancer, so I'm sure they'll pipe in, too. Hang in there. Post more often - it really does help.
s,
Laura

Gees, it sure sounds like you have alot going on.
It is never too late to call a halt to any plans and go get another opinion from a second gyn oncologist. Not an associate, but from a whole other practice.
My own diagnosis was quite different than your own, but I'm sure more ladies will be along that share your journey.
Best wishes.
Keep in touch.

Wondering about next step

((Pam)) ...you sure have traveled a bumpy road. The only thing I can tell you is that I would want a second opinion. You might get some other options, but at the very least you might get a clearer explanation and feel more comfortable with your decision.

I'm sorry that you're feeling so exhausted and no one is trying to help you with that.

(((Pam)))

I was wondering how you were getting along. I'm with the others--go get another opinion! I also want to ask, though, what is the surgery he wants to do? Is he talking about going in and removing part of your vaginal wall? Also, is your situation still precancerous?

And you're right--several of the ladies here have had radiation and continue to be sexually active, so that seems like an odd comment for him to make. I mean, yes, it's a possibility that you could form scar tissue that would close your vagina, but that's not common if you use the dilator as directed and it can be addressed if it becomes an issue. And if your cells are spreading--well, how does he intend to keep that from happening further?

I'm sorry that you're feeling so exhausted. Lots of things can contribute to that so make sure you're getting plenty of rest and eating healthily.

Please keep us posted, Pam! Go see another gyn/onc and see what they have to say--it could be well worth your time and effort.
