TAH/BSO found ovca

I am 5 wks post TAH/BSO that found OvCa. My chemo started 2 wks ago.
Knew I was going to lose my hair so got my hair cut shorter (was short
already). Bought a wig and some hats.

Lost my first hairs yesterday. Wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be
but I am sure when I can really SEE the loss, I may feel differently. Once a
lot falls out am going to go to a hairdresser to get head shaved (she has
been OvCa free for 5 yrs). In addition to losing hair, my scalp is also very
sensitive.

When washing my hair, I am rubbing very gently, using gentle shampoo,
wrapping head w/ towel instead of rubbing and gently putting hair in
place w/ fingers. Limiting my hairdrying and letting hair air dry whenever I
am able.

I tch students w/ autism, so am not working thru chemo. Kids are just way
too "germy" and I have a behaviorally tough group requiring much physical
activivity. I have enough sick days to cover this thank goodness!

I am sorry you are having to deal w/ the breast cancer on top of the TAH.

I am staying very positive! I am reading lots by Bernie Seagal who is a Dr
believing in positive thoughts. I am sticking to as regular a routine as
possible. Networking w/ others is helping immensely!!!! I WILL beat this!
My feeling is that negative thoughts aren't going to get me anywhere. I
am informed and know what the worse can be but am not dwelling on it.
Being positive will take me so much farther and make this journey so much
easier.

I hope this helps you!

Hi Cindi..
I love your spirit!! You sound like me..
However, i did work thru my chemo. I am also a teacher and teach pre-k. Wanna talk germs???? I did fine and all worked out great. I finished my chemo in September, the week after my son got married. So i was really very busy.
I also loved the fact that your hairdresser is a five year survivor. Just love to hear that kind of news.
My hair is growing in now, not quite fast enough for me, but it is coming in. It looks like a boys cut.
Good luck to you and let us know how you do on chemo.. are you taking taxol and carboplatin..I had 6 treatments of it.

s Cindi

Welcome to cancer concerns. You sure do have a fantastic attitude. There are a few of us here that share your diagnosis.
I was diagnosed in May 2001, with stage IIIc epithelial ovca. I completed six rounds of taxol and carboplatin in Oct 2001.
My hair was gone before my second treatment. Like your plan, once my hair started the freefall, I got it all shaved off. Lashes and brows followed at a much slower pace and were the first to return. My hair is now quite curly. I don't really like it, but I am a low maintenance woman and it sure beats bald.
I am a nurse, working in a hospital setting. My onc also did not allow me to work during chemo.
I kept myself quite busy and actually enjoyed the break.
Best wishes to you. I hope you keep in touch.

Welcome to Cancer Concerns

I was diagnosed 3C on 3/28/01 after surgery. I did work during chemo, but I had a clerical job and didn't have to be physically active. I did have to take leave from my second job, though. I think the hair loss stinks--wish they could come up with something to stop that. Mine was gone before treatment two. I finished in Sept. and could've been topless by Feb. but it came in excessively curly and I just hated it and hung on until about March 6. Now I have it short as that's the only way to keep it under control. Keep up your outlook! You can spend your time being negative or positive--it's the same time either way and might as well be as positive as you can be. Ellen

Keep up the Positive Attitude. I was diagnosed with ovca 2A in Aug and will get my 5th Chemo cycle on Mon. I am a nurse and can't work durring chemo either. Having a positive outlook helps. Keep it up.
