5 days post op and wondering

I had mine on January 3rd and been home for 2 days. The pain killers the dr gave me keep me awake. Haven't slept in 36 hours, but I've laid downa lot. Advil is keeping me functioning, but just barely. Since I just had a vaginal partial, I think the dr doens't think I need anything stronger since he hasn't returned my call yet. But I hurt still. or maybe I am just imagining things. Is this normal?

what is a partial, vaginal? Im dum Iguess. did you try some tylenol with codine at store? thats sold there in canada over the counter, friends of mine picked me some up last time they went to visit,
what sort of painkiller are you taking? also my own experience, I was quiteaffected withthe antibiotic they put in my i.v at hospital, that gave me an itchy skin problem for weeks, maybe your still having after affects of your anestetia or antibiotics.
a man gynocologistis like a mechanic who never owned a car, they cant imagine how we feel, common for them to underestimate our pain. try two advil, or three if they are only 200mg each try three. however my doctor told me not to take any ibuprofin because it can case bleeding,so I took darvicets, if I spelled that right, and they were pretty good.
I take 600 ibuprofin for my back pain and sometimes it just dont help. good luck

What I did

I don't know what pain pills are keeping you awake, but what I did to help with the pain was to take acetaminophen plain and when the pain got a little too much for that I'd take a bit of Valium, say 5 mg. This has been a protocol I've worked out with my doctor because I can't take many pain medications. At least it doesn't keep me awake!!

I was on morphine and percacet in the hospital. Now they gave me tylonel 3's. It has caffeine and codeine. I told him that I couldn't take them, but it had been such a long time since I had them I couldn't remember why. Now i remember. I am taking advil - 2 every 3 hours, but they aren't cutting it yet. I'm sure that they will be fine in a couple of days. Just hope the doc phones back soon

How long has it been since you called your doctor??? It is getting close to the time that doctors offices close. I would call right now and not let them tell you he will call back. Tell them you will hold or that you want to speak to his nurse. Ask them to call you into the pharmacy a different pain med. Staying awake for that long can not be helping your recovery much.

Hope he calls back soon.

I am with Darlene on this one... keep calling and calling and calling... if you are awake, he should be bugged about it.... I find that 8 days post-op, I have stopped all pain meds, but still can't fight off being sleepy.. mid morning nap and mid afternoon nap...

YOU NEED YOUR REST!!!!

Call him until the cows come home... if he does not respond, call the hosptial and have him paged...

Tried to call again, and was told that he hadn't yet responded to his email?? I'll keep trying even if he is busy with 'other patients' then I'll try the hospital as I'm not really sure of where he is.
Thanks ladies

I was sent home with Darvocet and I found that after a few days, they gave me headaches and kept me awake. I switched to 800 mg. Ibuprofen and it made a big difference. I also didn't drink any caffeine in the afternoon and evening and that helped with the sleep, too.

I hope you find some relief for both your pain and sleeplessness. It's so very important to have both for healing. Good luck and keep us posted as to how you're doing.

P.S. tamleeo: You're not dumb and this is the place to ask those questions! A partial vaginal hysterectomy is one where the uterus is removed through the vagina but the cervix is left intact.
