Hi Ladies:

Ok, yes I smoke, I'm trying to quit, NOT EASY...Being home makes it even harder...Any smokers out there that quit and how did you do it...

Yesterday I had 6 (still to many), I want to try the patch but with being new on HRT not sure I want to....Today however, I'm trying NONE.....

Being on HRT and smoking I know is VERY bad idea, so I've heard, another good reason to give it UP...Wish I never stared many moons ago....

Feeling, ok, still w/ headaches and hot flashes thank god I see my GYN on Wed...If no luck with him, I'm making an appointment with my family doctor whom I love....

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend....

p.s. I'm 15 days post0op and sometimes have cramp like feeling, I believe this to me normal (I HOPE) no spotting never did from day one....

Thanks Ladies

Stop smoking support thread on Hysteritaville

Hey, I'm bombing out on this too Julie! And all the scientific evidence points to better HRT metabolism for non-smokers. I sit here next to an ashtray full of butts knowing I am sabotaging hormone balance. I did cut back drastically. But the justification for continuing is just mind-boggling.

Today, the plan is more behavior modification stuff. I do smoke less when the rule is only allowed to smoke outside. It's cold out there baby! I am going to make it even more of a PITA to go outside to smoke by wearing an outfit that requires me to add some clothing in order to tolerate time outside. Maybe if taking a smoke break involves a big production number, I might decide not worth it. And I am cleaning today and maybe if I freshen the air up inside, I will be less tempted to stink it up again.

I also switched brands and not smoking my usual menthol. Very unpleasant. When I am stepped down to six a day, going to slap on the patches.

Good luck to both of us. I can use a stop smoking buddy if you are interested in doing this via PM or email.

Had my surgery Jan 6th. I knew in my heart that I should have quit a couple of months prior but just could not find it in me. I did not have a cigarette for 36 hours before which was a big achievement.

I did not attempt to go smoke while in the hospital either. I did have a bit of a colapsed lung as a result and had to excersise my lungs to ensure I was breathing properly,

Since I have been home, I am really trying to stay off of cigarettes. I do fine as long as I am not with DH. He tends to sabotage my attempts. I have smoked a bit but am fighting the urge, Went all day today without.

I am not on HRT but certainly know all the other health issues there are around smoking.

Good luck to all of you who are trying.

I quit cold turkey

Yes, it was hard, but after trying many times to taper off, etc., I just knew I am not the kind of person who can 'just have one'. I'm like that with other things, too. So I just plain stopped. I changed some of my behaviours that I associated with smoking, too. For example (don't scream) I gave up coffee at the same time because I always smoked when I drank coffee. So I drank tea or orange juice instead because I didn't associate smoking with those things. I think I dreamt about cigarettes and smoking for about three years!! Really. Off and on, more at the beginning than later. For me it was just sheer will power and commitment. I'm doing the same thing now with weight loss. (83 lbs gone so far.)

So good luck. I hope you find a way that works for you. I know how hard it is. And I know it can be done and that you feel SO much better afterwards. Or at least I did. (I'm talking a long time after here ).

Quit 2 weeks ago with nicorette

Been home since yesterday afternoon and doing well. Wanted to drop in on this post because I have been doing well with nicorette when other things didn't work so well. My sister, who smoked for 20 years and is now smoke free for a year, used the gum and it worked for her. Although she still chews the gum 1 year later.
Anyway, the gum is good since you can chew it when you have an urge and control when you use it. Anyway, is working for me, might be worth a shot for you!
