Scar tissue/adhesions

Hi Swolf

I had lap. in 1996 for tubal ligation. There was some scar tissue mainly in the belly button area. The pubic area incisions (there were two) didn't have any noticable scar tissue.

Do you have any specific concerns about scar tissue?

The only time the belly button scar tissue gave me any trouble was when I go my belly buttom pierced and they had to pierce a little deeper than normal.

Hope this helps!

Scar tissue/adhesions

Hi Swolf,
Unfortunately, yes, a Lap can create scar tissue, as can any surgery, certain invasive procedures trauma ect..the chances of forming extensive Adhesions are reduced w/ a Lap vs abdominal incisions. I had a TAH-bikini incision in Jan 2000. 12 weeks later, after experiencing worsening right-sided pain, I had an RSO, to remove my enlarged, cyst-covered Ovary, along w/ a mass that had shown up on an U/S. The mass turned out to be Scar Tissue that was adhering my Ovary to my cuff area. Too bad the pain never left In May of 2000, I was admitted thru the ER, for severe abdominal pain, nausea & vomiting. I was dx with Total Bowel Obstructions that required emergency surgery. The obstructions were caused by Scar Tissue & it was noted( in Op report) that in the areas of my Lap scars from my RSO, broad Adhesions had formed from those sites attaching to various areas. I also had severe Adhesions that were covering organs causing them to be plastered to other organs, side-walls was a mess Nothing was noted in the Op report from my RSO concerning these other areas just the Adhesions that had formed on & around my Ovaries. I assume my Surgeon was just after the Ovary & the mass so he didnt explore the other areas Here are some links w/some good info on Adhesions~causes, complications as well as many methods that can be used in their prevention:,00.html

scar tissue

Well i've had 13 ops before for endo...and have lots of scar tissue and adhesions...mostly on my bowel.

They once told me, that every time they open you up abdominally, then there is a chance scar tissue will form in the spot.

I have lots of pain from the adhesions....most of the time it's like a tearing sensation if i move quickly, but it's very painful whatever!

I hope that this answers a few questions.
