am i doing the right thing?

(((Debbie)))

Of course your heart dropped! All we want to hear is that we are totally normal now. But don't panic!

Sometimes pathology reports can come back contradictory to each other. And remember--there was some passage of time between your cone and your TVH and things can happen during a short time. You might like to ask your doc what the outside margins from this new pathology report refer to. Margins are the edges of a sample. When you had your cone, the margins were the edges of THAT sample. Now with your hyst, you had a new sample. so, are the edges the inside of your cervix, or are the edges where your cervix connects to your vaginal wall?

Atypia isn't really the same thing as abnormal (per my doc, anyway). It just means the cell isn't "typical" but it isn't exactly abnormal, either. About a year after my TAH I had a PAP that came back with cellular atypia. He had me wait 2 months and then went in a did a colposcopy/biopsy and couldn't find anything.

I think it's a great idea for you to follow-up with a gyn/onc! Take both of your path reports and any slides you might have, and go hear what s/he has to say! A second opinion never hurts.

But, in the meantime, breathe! Eat well, get plenty of rest, ask about appropriate vitamin supplements. Get your immune system working to its maximum potential. This can be beat, and all of us are going to do it together!!

Good luck, and let us know how things turn out!

am i doing the right thing?

s Debbie

I really have nothing to add to Jeanine's excellent advice.
I only wanted to support the idea of getting a second opinion from a gyn oncologist. I'm sure this will put your mind at ease.
Best wishes to you.

The reason you had the TVH was to make sure that all of the atypical cells were cone even though there were clean margins. I went into my surgery with a dx of Adenocarcinoma in situ. The pathology report from the hysterectomy came back Stage 1 Cancer. I was terrified. It is a good idea to go to a gyn oncologist who hopefully will be your mind at ease. I recommend going for at least one opinion.
