Pocket of fluid?

Hello all! What a great website!

What started out as a search for a kidney stone (none there) ended me up at my gyn. office to have an ovarian cyst checked out that showed up on a CT Spiral and IVP (three weeks later). The ultrasound showed a big pocket of fluid behind the cyst and an enlarged ovary. The fluid pocket has grown down between my uterus and colon and could be attached to either. I have a laparoscope scheduled for February 5. Depending on what she finds, she may take the ovary, ovary and tube, and possibly the uterus.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? According to my doctor, this "mystery" pocket is a bit unusual. Whatever this pocket is, she said it is a chronic condition that has been there for a long time.

Any input or advice? I am not worried about the surgery, but it is a little unsettling not knowing how long my "vacation" will be.

Thanks for your help!

Pocket of fluid?

Hi Jamie

Welcome to Hystersisters! I'm sorry to hear about this "mystery pocket" of yours. Have you tried doing a search to see if there are any existing threads on the subject? It's easy, just click on the "search" button at the top right of the screen, plug in several key words, and hopefully you'll find some matches.

Good luck on your upcoming laparoscope. You've come to the right place for support, both pre and post surgery.

Pocket of fluid?

I don't know if this is the same thing as your "mystery pocket," but I have had many ovarian cysts that ruptured. It is my understanding that the fluid from the cysts is what causes a lot of pain (or if they cysts is big and twisting or pulling on the ovary). My doctors have always compared the fluid to hot sauce that "burns" everything that it touches. A large cyst can get that fluid in a lot of places! Maybe the cyst has partially ruptered or something? Again, just my understanding and thoughts (not a doctor!).

Good luck! I have had kidney stones and many ovarian cysts, and neither of them are fun. I hope you get it all taken care of. I am glad to be finished with my evil ovaries!
