Worried about HRT after tah/oopherectomy

I will be having a TAH removing my remaining ovary at the same time, quite soon. I am really worried about having to take HRt and don't know if there are alternatives. could I try dealing with the problems through a plant oestrogen diet etc., soya osofavones? I am really confused about my options and my Dr says i will defeinitly have to take HRT Is this right? I am 48 years old, very large fibroids, heavy bleeding, cyst on one remaining ovary and generally fed up!!

the ladies to talk to are at this link

www.hormonejungle.com, click on the Oasis board.

Yes, it is entirely possible to have good health without using hormone replacement therapy and the women at the Oasis are proof positive. Herbs have been used for centuries for menopausal symptoms with success. Women with endo or cancer dx's have to forgo HRT all the time and they are managing well without it.

And it wouldn't hurt to check out the other hormone jungle board for info. HRT doesn't mean horse urine anymore LOL. Lots of HRT meds out there derived from soy or wild yam that are bio-identical to the hormones our bodies made with ovaries.

Problem I see with phyto-estrogens is they are not standardized. Some brands are, others, you aren't sure how many milligrams of active ingredients there are. And your body has to take say, wild yam, and synthesize it to make it available to your tissues. I chose to do the bioidentical HRT since it just cuts to the chase, no need to break it down and synthesize it. Can you tell I am lazy? But if you have other preferences, that's great too.

While your ovaries are the main source of 60% of the estrogens, progesterones and testosterone your body needs, the adrenal glands and body fat produce these hormones too. In theory, with proper herbal support, your adrenals can take over for your ovaries.

I think it is wonderful you are doing your research on this prior to surgery. See you over in the jungle. You will have earned your nose bone before you know it.

Hi dimby!

Welcome to Hystersisters!
Regarding HRT, have you discussed HRT with your Doctor yet?
You know like what type he wants you to be on and why?
This is a definate thing that you want to research like crazy!
My Doctor and I discussed this in length at my Pre-Op appointment and he even told me what kind of HRT he would be starting me on after the surgery.
I would suggest researching in the "Hormone Jungle" and the "No Hormone Desert Oaisis" sections of this forum.
The girls there have a wealth of information and there is also a lot of good information on the pulldown sections on the "Hormone Jungle" main page.
I wish you good luck in this as it can be extremely confusing.
Just remember we are always hear to help where we can!
Hope this helps!

Janet
