swelly belly?
What is 'swelly belly'? Is your incision swollen or your whole belly? Can it really last a year? What if you have a tummy tuck?

swelly belly?
"Swelly belly" is a term that we have coined for the abdominal swelling that occurs following a hysterectomy. One of the gals explained it by giving the example of the swelling that occurs in our ankle when we have a sprained ankle. There is a lot of work done in your abdomen and some swelling occurs. And it is the entire abdomen, not just the incision.
We expect that at 6 weeks we have healed 50%. And, complete healing takes 6 months to a year. So, it is important to rest with your feet up and follow your doctor’s instructions in regard to weight limits for lifting, etc. Taking good care of yourself in the beginning of recovery will lessen the total recovery time; and, hopefully, swelly belly will not last as long.
I'm not sure with a tummy tuck, but I think I've read that with a tummy tuck the plastic surgeon quite often has their patients use a tummy binder.

swelly belly?
Hi, a lot of us get swollen after a hyst. With me it was my entire abdomen, I had a tah/bso with a bikini cut (about 7"). My dr said that the swelling was caused by the cutting to remove everything and also from the internal stitches to close everything back up. I'm almost 6 months post op now and most of the swelling is gone. I still do get tender and swollen (mostly right above my incision ) after a very active day. I was told that it can take up to a full year to heal completely. I can tell you that it does get better every day.
I didn't have a tummy tuck , so I don't know anything about that.

Swelly-Belly with Vag?
This is a question I've been meaning to ask and keep forgetting!
It sounds like one gets swelly-belly no matter how their hyst is done, is that right? Does one get/need a belly-binder when getting a TVH?
And when the heck will my pants fit again!? I've recently come to the conclusion that based on my current weight my 22's should fit just perfect/a little big. Instead, my 24's are tight! Grrr! I'm still a and I've already got swelly belly!
Well, that last bit was just . I know it'll be a bit before I get my figure back (and maybe a little less...hopefully).
s,
Val

Swelly Belly
In my experience, it doesn't seem to make any difference how your hyst was done. I had LAVH/BSO with Sparc Sling placement on 1/9/03 and I have swelly belly too. I had a lot of swelling and bruising down in the pubic area which has gone away, but the abdomen swelling is still there. I had one of those abdomen wraps that I wore home from the hospital and for the first week at home. It helped alot to keep my belly from feeling like it was all loose inside and from the pain. I'm hoping to be able to get into my bathing suit by mid-March when we go on vacation. Wish me luck! I've been wearing loose pants too.

swelly belly?
Doesn't seem to make any difference. I just had a LSH - BSO, four little incisions, no internal stitching and I look like I gained 30 pounds all in the stomach. My clothes I planned on wearing home from the hospital didn't work at all.
