Post op bikni waxing? Safe?

Has anyone been brave enough to try yet? I had a TAH so I have a very large incision in the bikini area (8.5 inches long). Tuesday will be 6 weeks for me and I was wondering if it's ok to go for a bikini wax yet (cuz I sure do need one, never mind the hormone jungle, I’ve got the bikini jungle goin on!) I am starting to think that I am part sasquatch! Yikes! I want to have it tidied up before the BF sees it!

How long have you waited for the clean up wax jobs? Please share with me as I am clear for sex next week, and quite frankly I think this wild look is a bit of a turn off. How long should we wait for a wax job? Help me please!

Hi Rebecca

Being a shaver myself, I wouldn't think waxing would cause any problems. It's far enough away from the incision to not cause any infection issues. I'd say go for it myself. I shaved my bikini line at about a week and never thought anything of it.

Enjoy yourself!!!

I am thinking if it is OK to have sex, it should be ok to groom yourself for it ....but if you are finding it worrisome, maybe you should check with your doctor or the nurse in his/her office. Do you think that deep down inside you may be just a little afraid that waxing might hurt more than it did before the surgery?

Oh Judy!

I never even thought of that? What if it does hurt more now? Gosh before I think I had the world's highest pain threshold, thanks to the endo. I actually broke my foot (I accidentally jammed the refrigerator door over it, don't ask) and then walked on it for two weeks. After I found out it was broken I just had my boss (he's a chiropractor) adjust it for me. Now that I'm not in constant pain what will my pain receptors be like now?! Oh wish me luck I am going to bite the bullet here and opt for the clean up, because I would be far more embarrassed if the BF saw me lookin’ the way I do! LOL! I just want the first time post op to be special. This may sound kina weird but I almost feel like a virgin again, having sex for the very first time. Do you know what I mean? Does that make any sense?

I must admit my eyes watered when I read your post!!! I can't imagine waxing 'down there' now let alone with a wound present!! lol I'd be worried it might pull. I know what you mean about the forest though........ enough said

Thanks Chris!

Glad to know I'm not the only one goin' native here! Your right, waxing does tend to pull a bit. Hmmm? I guess I will just have to try and find a friendly loging company to come in and clear cut the trees for me.

I am sorry, I didi not mean to ADD to your worry. I do not think it is at all odd to be concerned about what the BF, DH or SO will think when we are first "close" after such an invasive surgery and treatment. 6 weeks is forever. If waxing makes you feel more confident and feel more beautiful, then you go girl. Sorry to hear about your foot, tho. My DS fell once and broke his foot in 5 places. Was a few weeks before he said "Mom, my foot really hurts!" Now we know for him, "ow" means "I need to go to the ER".

once a waxer...

I'm a waxer too, and just the thought of pulling at that tender skin, even if it is far enough from your incision, check with your doctor first, they might say No problem, or they may say wait just a little bit longer, that scar tissue needs to heal!

Hi GLT,
I'm a shaver myself, but you can bet that at 17 days post op I've already pulled up my saggy belly and groomed as close to the incision as possible. Feels good to be neat and clean. And being numb below the incision I am REALLY careful. (Ah Vanity! LOL)
