Back Pain???

Big (((hugs))) to each of you suffering from back pain My back problems started after my Hyst in 1/00 & were only aggravated by more surgery.. During my last surgery, I was hospitilized for 2 weeks(Bowel Obstruction & surgery complications) during which my back pain became so bad I cried each nite My Surgeon put me on Muscle Relaxers while there but they didnt help. I saw my GP upon discharge...he done an MRI of my Lumbar region & said that it was normal...so I continued to suffer w/ no answers! B/c of worsening Pelvic & abdominal pain I was referred to a Pain Clinic for pain Management. When they got that pain under control, they started looking into my back. I was referred to a Rheumy who dx'd my FMS/CFS, sent to PT who found my Scoliosis & severe muscle spasms in my lower back. I was fitted w/ a back brace & given a TENS unit. If you havent tried the TENS, it was of some major relief for me back then! Thru the next 2 years the severity of my back pain increased. Several months ago, during a routine Pelvic CT, they found DDD. I was scheduled for further tests which revealed Arthritis in my spine & 2 bad discs, I was given Epidural Injections, more PT & Traction. During the Traction my Dr found I had Hypermobility Syndrome. They have tried all the alternative treatments for my back & now want to schedule a Discography to try & pinpoint the exact source of pain. Most of mine is in my lower back, it's stabbing pains that radiate down into my legs to my feet. My entire spine hurts at times Mine worsens w/ long periods of sitting or standing but never goes completely away...
Surgery was mentioned but that scares the heck out of me. I've read soo much on *Failed back syndrome* caused by surgery or that has only made the pain worse! Here is some info I've gathered in researching the many causes of back pain that might be of some help:

Back Pain???

Thanks SHERI you're always a world of knowledge. Hopefully, it will shed on the subject a little further. I don't have the radiating pain down the leg or stabbing. That's why I am still suspicious of the ab pain pressure.

do you other ladies have the ab pains in addition to the back issue?? One thing I was wondering is if the back is getting strained from the difficulty in using my ab muscles appropriately. I know I am not walking or standing properly, unconsciously I think I am guarding my stomach.

Thanks everyone for replying.....'s to all and hopefully, will tell the exact answers for us all.

DLK

BTW: ((SHERI)) I can really empathize with you on the surgery thing, I know you have been through a lot for your pelvic pain w/o resolution so being timid about your back is understandable.
Only you will be able to make the decision whether the risk is worth it or not. ers to you for peace about your decision.

Yes DLK, I do have pains on the left side of my ab still. Doc says that might be due to reoccuring adhesions. I think you might have something there on the back hurting because of not using the abs correctly. I still can't walk up stairs right due to continued weakness in my lower abs.

Back Pain...

Hi Sisters...

My back pain is left-sided and I feel stabbing/spasming type pain in the left lower side of the pelvic region that radiates across the bladder area too.

When I had my hysterectomy, the had to pry my left ovary away from the pelvic wall as it was adhered to it like super glue. That's why I wonder if it's adhesions????

She did tell me though that if I needed additional surgery, she would use the new mesh products to hinder further adhesion growth. When I had shoulder surgery, the doctor had to do a closed manipulation 5 months later due to scar tissue build up. He told me my body just "makes alot of it"....

I've got an appt this Thursday to discuss it with the GYN....Today has been a bad day. But some days are better than others.

Thanks for the links Sheri...I'm looking through them myself.

Let's all hope for a positive outcome and less pain for us all.

Lori
