My first LEEP is OVER!!

Hi Ladies,

Well, after much stress and worry, my first (and hopefully LAST!) LEEP is over! It actually went really well. It was not at all painful and the only uncomfortable part was when the freezing was applied to my cervix. The adrenaline in that shot is crazy!! Anyways, my doctor feels that this will most likely solve my case of moderate/severe dysplasia. He said he removed a "nickel" sized area from my cervix. I won't get my path report for about 2 weeks, so one can never relax until the results are official, but I'm trying to have some faith that all will be well.

For anyone else with severe dysplasia......did a LEEP procedure work for you? My doctor said that my cure rate should be about 95%.....are there any success stories out there? I feel like everyone on this board has had treatment failure, and I just want to believe that there are people out there who have experienced success with LEEP!!!

Thanks a bunch.....
Lisa

My first LEEP is OVER!!

's Lisa!

Congratulations on getting your LEEP over with! You must feel so much better! You're right, though. Waiting for those results before partying is important, and sometimes it feels like a long wait.

Most women are successfully treated for dysplasia with either a LEEP or cone. My doctor told me that 90% are effectively "cured". It's important for you to remember to keep your follow-up appointments though, since it does occasionally return .

I had a cone back in 1987 and that did the trick for me for 10 years before I had any more problems. I think the reason that it's hard to find success stories here is because once a woman is treated with LEEP or cone and doesn't have any more problems, she moves on from these boards since a hysterectomy is no longer in her future. Those of us who continue to post unfortunately fell into that 5-10% of women that weren't "cured" by the LEEP and had to go on to have the hysterectomy.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that this is all you need! Please stop in and let us know what you find out!

My first LEEP is OVER!!

Hi Lisa,

I'm glad your LEEP is over and it went well for you. You're right that most of us ended up with a hyst but please realize that those who never had any further problem just move on.

I found Hystersisters when I knew I was going to have a hyst. I never even came to this board until I got my path report back and it showed CIS.......that awful word "carcinoma".

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be back saying "all clear" soon!

My first LEEP is OVER!!

Hi Lisa
Just wanted to let you know that I had a Leep for CIN III and it was curative... (so far anyway). It was done on October 25th and the pathology test said clear margins....I go next week for the three month post Leep visit and am hoping for an all clear again!!! I visit other boards and know of many cases where a Leep was curative. Concentrate on building your immunity by eating right, exercising and taking your vitamins. If you smoke try your best to stop. Been there and done that myself. Hopefully this will be the end of this medical nightmare for you. I know that the waiting is the hardest part. I wish you well and pray that your Leep was curative as well.

s and ers,
Carol

Hello Lisa
I also had a leep done in Dec 2002. Hopefully yours turns out better than mine. I'm scheduled for TVH January 30,2003 for pre invasive cancer of my cervix and uterus. You will be in my prayers.
God Bless
