January is Cervical Cancer Month...Pass the word!

Spread the word!

January is Cervical Cancer Month. Every year in the United States, approximately 12,900 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and an estimated 4,400 women die unnecessarily from the disease. To fight this growing trend, the National HPV & Cervical Cancer Campaign is focusing on better educating women about the importance of cervical cancer screening, the link between the human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer, and the improved detection techniques available.
In January, in commemoration of Cervical Cancer Month, the National HPV & Cervical Cancer Campaign has announced new guidelines to assist the over 2 million women every year who are diagnosed with mild abnormalities following routine cervical cancer screening. The guidelines advocate testing for HPV as the most effective screening method following an inconclusive Pap test. Developed by the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), the campaign’s leading partner, the guidelines provide critical health information and raise awareness about the causal link between HPV and cervical cancer and the importance of regular, effective cervical cancer screening. With early detection and education, no woman need die from cervical cancer or experience anxiety from inconclusive Pap tests.
Mark your January calendar each year with this message. We are asking that you share the information that follows with as many of your family, friends and colleagues as possible. Women “need to know” these facts in order to realize our dream of eliminating deaths from cervical cancer. We know the cause, we can test for it, and when detected early, no women need die from cervical cancer. Please join in making our dream a reality. Spread the word! With a goal of reaching over 5 million women during the month of January, the campaign will utilize the power of the internet to also distribute these guidelines and a health care message as part of its annual internet campaign. Visit www.hpvandcervicalcancercampaign.org for more information on the new guidelines and Cervical Cancer Month.

Pass it on....

s to all!
