Cervical Tests

Hi, can someone help me w/ dye tests they would give to a female who has never had children but would be approaching menopause (early)? Periods have been incapacitating for years. She's presently 38 yrs. old.

Cervical Tests

Hi Kendall Can you give us any more information so we can figure out which test this is? Do you know what they're trying to accomplish by doing it? Is it a test involving dye in her reproductive system or her urinary system?

I have a hunch about this. When I was having trouble getting pregnant, I went through some of the routine tests to see what was wrong. One of them involved me lying on my back on an x-ray table in what I fondly refer to as the 'pithed frog position' (do you remember high school biology? ) with the top plate pressing down on my abdomen, having dye injected through a little catheter into my uterus under pressure. The idea was that the dye would be pushed up and fill the tubes, and they'd be able to visualize them on the x-ray machine to make sure they were open. It was pretty uncomfortable! Felt like a bad cramp and burned a bit, as I remember, and it lasted several minutes, until they let the dye back out.

Does that sound like what she's having or had? It can also be used to visualize fibroids or polyps in the uterus, and it's called a hysterosalpingogram. Here's a link to a great description with pictures of various test results:

I hope this helps!

You're the best!

Thanks Linda,

I got tons of information. She described it as having to give herself injections in her cervix (???). I'll check out the link you gave me. Thanks a ton!
