Very Painful intercourse

I had a Hyst 7 months ago and recently had intercourse for the first time since my Hyst, I was in severe pain and on the verge of passing out and I did bleed for about a day. Can anyone tell me if this is normal after 7 months has gone by. Thank you.

Very Painful intercourse

Hi April I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! No, it shouldn't be that painful now. I could understand some slight discomfort, but not severe pain and bleeding.

Did you keep your ovaries? Are you on any type of HRT? There are a couple of reasons you might have pain and bleeding with intercourse several months post op. One is granulation tissue. This is unhealed tissue, often at the vaginal cuff. Your DR could check to see if this is the trouble.

The other possibility, and one which many ladies here and in the Hormone Jungle and No-Hormone Desert Oasis forums have dealt with, is vaginal dryness and/or vaginal atrophy. That's the reason I asked about HRT or ovaries. Vaginal dryness and atrophy are often caused by low estrogen levels in the tissues of the vagina. For lots more information on this, here is a link to a discussion including options for treating it:

vaginal dryness

You will see in that link that the condition is very easily treatable... many ladies here have had great success with the vaginal estrogen products for restoring the moisture and elasticity to the vagina that's essential for comfortable intercourse.

I hope this helps... do let us know what you find out, OK? And please don't hesitate to discuss this with your DR, he/she needs to know to be able to help you.
s,
-Linda

Very Painful Intercourse

Hi, I went to the Dr. The reason I was hurting so much is that I have a 3 inch tear on the inside and that is also the reason for the bleeding. After the Dr. examined me I started bleeding again. I have to go back and see him in one week to see if it started healing. It could tak up to 4 weeks for it to completely heal. He also said no sex for at least 3 weeks.

Oh gosh April I'm so glad you went to your DR! Did he give you anything (like vaginal estrogen) to help with the healing, or just tell you to take it easy? I hope it heals up well and no further treatment is necessary.
