Rectocele Repair

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your good wishes etc. They mean alot to me.

It been a long road since the 4th. I ended up having surgery on the 4th and again on the 14th of February.

On the 4th the doctor ran into some problems with the bladder being stuff like superglue (ha ha) to the vagina and other places. The dr ended up being 2 holes in the bladder. She brought in a urologist and they both decided that they was enough trauma to the bladder. So they decided it was better to let the bladder heal before they fixed the rectocele etc. So on 2/14 I went back in for the rest of the surgery. The vagina prolapse was fixed an the rectocele. The dr didn't have to repair the cystocele once the vagina prolapse was fixed.

It has been a long month. The rectocele repair is my biggest complaint so far. It is very uncomfortable and things do not feel normal down there. I am to be patient and realize it will take a good 6-8 weeks to really start healing. I see the dr next Wednesday and I hope she can ease my concerns about how I feel down there.

Thanks again to all of you. This is a wonderful site. I'll keep you posted on my recover. It is hard to sit at the computer for any length of time.

Best of luck to Debbie49 - (Feb 4th) Cystocele and Rectocele repair

((((Debbie))))) I'm so sorry you've had such a hard time since February 4th I'm relieved that things are going, a little, better.

I had a rectocele repaired at the same time as my hyst and, initially, the discomfort from the rectocele was the only pain I had. I really had not been prepared for so much pain in the perineal area.

Hopefully, if your recovery is anything like mine was, you should be starting to feel a lot better in the next week or so. By then, I found that I could sit somewhat comfortably again.

A few things that helped me with that part of the recovery:
  • using a peri bottle filled with lukewarm or even warm water, to gently spray the area, especially after using the bathroom
  • if you do not have peri bottle, a washcloth soaked in warm water will do the trick. Just use it to gently pat the area
  • use either a "donut" pillow or small travel pillow to sit on
  • limit sitting upright
  • be sure to keep as regular as possible, by adding fibers to your diet, drinking water (preferably at room temperature) and walking

Hang in there, ((((sweetie)))), you're hopefully on the road to recovery and heading for that off-ramp we're all looking for.

Rectocele Repair

Dany,

Thank you so much for replying and for the suggestions. I have a sitz bath and that helps.

I know I need to be patient. The doctor said it takes 6-8 weeks minimum. My only concern is that the reason I had the surgery was for discomfort when sitting, and I am now even more uncomfortable. However, the dr did tell me that the rectocele was going to be the most uncomfortable part of the surgery.

Thanks again for responding. I'll keep you posted. I see the dr next Wednesday.
