Just found out I have a fistula

Hi Ladies,

Hope everyone is well- I feel pretty good actually- went to the store today and bought new walking sneakers and sandals for the summer- it felt good to get out..!!

Cath is OK- still have the floatie things(love that Jan) but always did so lol.. it is not clogged but depends how I lay down lately as to how it drains.. so am keeping a careful eye on it!! But the pain is much better, but that swelly belly is awful- I look 6 months prego when I got home from the store and it did ache a bit- so I will just relax tonight..

Hope you feel better Jan and your spasms are better.. will you have just a supra or both when you come home- ask before so you know what you are in for- it makes it easier.. I did have both in castle and just carried them around with me. well talk to you all soon!!

Just found out I have a fistula

Glad you got out yesterday Karen. Take it easy though. Jan, I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Soon this will be behind you all.

I am starting my 2nd FULL week of work (had only one day off) and all I can say is thank goodness it's just till the 15th because I'm so exhausted I couldn't keep up this pace. I can't believe how much the second surgery took out of me. My legs get tired so easily. I still can't push a shopping cart without pain and fatigue....I have to keep telling myself that I've had two major surgeries in 3 months and not to be so hard on myself.

My swelling is going down finally although by the end of the day I'm def. more swollen than in the morning. I've been walking a bit which feels good on my twitchy legs. I think I just need to move more.

Well I go back for an apt. with urol. on April 18th and hopefully I'll be in the clear with no leaks.

Take care sisters,
I'll be thinking of you all.

Just found out I have a fistula

Morning all!

I hope everyone is feeling good today.

I am feeling pretty good for the most part. I am 11 weeks post repair today! I still have times with aches and pains but nothing that concerns me. I am planning on making a drs apt for the end of this month just to get everything checked out, plus I need a mammogram-I am overdue for my annual because of the fistula repair. I thought I would do all this now so I can have a full year with no dr visits!

I think about all of you often and all we've shared over the last several months and I thank God we had the opportunity to help each other through this! NONE of my family or friends really understood what all this was like, but I know you girls did and it was very comforting to know. I can't remember how many times I tried to explain a bladder spasm and they looked at me like I was nuts!

Hope you all have a good day and are all healing and getting lots of rest and sunshine!

Hugs!
Louise

Just found out I have a fistula

Good luck Jan and congrats and finally having the fix surgery behind you. It's all up hill from here. Hang in there and rest.

I am 8 weeks post op from my fistula repair (abdominal). I get tired real easily. I know as soon as I can start exercising I'll feel better and have more energy and be back to my "normal" self.

I have to keep reminding myself that I had two major surgeries in 3 months. I am too hard on myself.

I get 2 days off. We are so caught up in the office they didn't want to pay me overtime today. BELEIVE me I could use two days off.

I lost all but the last 4 weeks of my anual income. <sigh> As I've said before health and family are so much more important than money....I'm hoping that I'll get reimbursed for lost wages too. VERY big hope!

I have no leaks but my pee stinks. I'm sure I have a bladder infection but hoping to avoid another bought of antibiotics by drinking water and cranberry juice.

Well take care everyone. Glad to hear your're home Jan and Karen how ya doing? No news is good news I hope.

Remember to rest.
Take care,
Renee

Way To Go Jan

HI Girls

Lets here it for Jan(wolfmouse) she is home and on the road to recovery!! YIPEE I am so relieved and know all my fistulasisters are too!! Sometimes it just takes way to long on this road for all of us..

Anyway I am OK- just resting still this week and looking forward to getting supra out next week.. I did venture out to buy another pair of spring pants(drawstring-yuck) but my somach is still sooo swollen..when will that end??

I feel OK still have bad bouts of exhaustion.. but am taking care of myself and taking my vitamins as I should..hopefully I can start to walk next week and get some stamina back.. well it is still cold and snowy in CT.- only 40 degrees today so that is not helping either.. but I will send DH to Blockbuster to rent me a movie.. we might actually sneak out to dinner alone later which will be a real treat!! Well I am off to put my feet up again- you all take care, be well and stay warm.. thinking of you all fondly!!

Just found out I have a fistula

Hi sisters, I am wondering, did any of ya'll leak a bit after surgery?for the fistula reapir, I have leaked a bit twice. I had my repair on tuesday 4-1 03 , and now have a little minor leakage when I sit on the tiolet, Is it part of the fluid draining from the surgery? or another leak, I will call the dr on monday, I'm crossing my fingers that the repair will hold. I can't tell for sure if I am leaking vaginally , or is this just excess fluid working its way out.?

Other than the extreme fatigue, I feel lots better, the spasms are very mild so far, nothing like before, . and the pain is alot better too.

.to all my dear sisters

Just found out I have a fistula

HI Jan

Hope you are feeling better- you are probably leaking around the foley- as for leakage from the vagina I had none, it is very hard to tell too as I think my 2 outlets down there are now much closer together!!.. do you have a supra to or just foley??

I leak a little when I sit to, but I only have the supra.. call DR on Monday, But I am sure it is nothing.. take care and rest and drink lots of water and cranberry juice.. make sure bowels are moving to- I am now an a daily dose of Milk of Magnesia and it has worked wonders for me, but don't take anything w/out checking with DR first.. thinking of you girl..

Just found out I have a fistula

Jan,

I had both cath's after my fistula repair. The foley was taken out at a two week checkup and then I had the supra for the remaining 2 weeks. I didn't leak at all but I think that is because I had both caths in. The doctor wanted NO pressure on my bladder.

You know after what we've been through I think (and I'm speaking for myself) that we are going to fear a LOT. I'm so afraid that I'm not healed all the way and one day I'll spring a leak. The urologist said it's not uncommon for the first fix surgery to work and he's had to repair fistula's more than once on the same person. Although he "feels" he got a good repair on me....

I'm sure before they take out any catheter you'll have that x-ray where they fill up your bladder and take a look at it and make sure it's holding liquid....with no leaks.

Def. call your doctor and let us know if you have both cath's in.
I'll be thinking good thoughts for you. Karen you take it easy too. I still hurt and it's been nearly 9 weeks post op. I fatigue so easily and my hair is STILL falling out.

Have a good Sunday all. Rest, and drink that cranberry juice.

Just found out I have a fistula

Hi sisters! I got the foley out today and was able to go by myself, Yipee!! So far so good, just a few minor twinges, no bad spasms or leaks, I hopefully will go back to work on April 21. I'll let ya know what the doc says next week when I go for my post op.

Lets all hope for a drier spring!
