gain weight or lose weight

Good morning everyone, yes it is still am here in Japan.
It is nice waking up and knowing that my day will not be filled with unanswered questions, coz I know that my new sisters are justs a click away.
Yes,I am 6mos. post-op today.Looking back now,I can say that ,yeah,I think,I have already accepted the fact that a part of my INSIDES is missing. To be frank,Im glad that I dont have my monthly period now coz my PMS was the worst then.
Some months ago, after the operation, some of my friends from my own country, the Philippines, called me via long distance to offer words of encouragement.OR are those really words of encouragement?.One told me that I should be ready for unexplained weight gain.Another one told me,more brutally, that it is too bad I gained weight during pregnancy coz it is now impossible to lose weight because of the operation.Another one told me that I should be able to lose the weight Ive gained because hyst.is synonimous to weight loss.
You can just imagine how confused the remark made me,though I still appreciate the fact that they called. But still I did not take them all, seriously,as I was not too seriuos about losing weight coz Im still breastfeeding. But now,coz its my 6mos.<I am planning to stop breastfeeding, and start to trim down slowly.
Can my sisters here, please enlighten me on this subject, does hyst.cause a woman to lose weight or to gain weight? My weight is almost the same since day one post-op.
Thanks and waiting for answers,PLEASE... :confuse: :confuse:

gain weight or lose weight

Hi aura

Sometimes women do experience weight gain, this is mainly caused by hormones though. It's not the rule that you'll gain weight. Not overeating and getting exercise is the best defense against weight gain.

In the weeks after surgery I lost about 10 pounds, after my appetite came back I regained most of it. I have been watching my food intake and getting more exercise, and I've lost the 10 again.

Best wishes!

Hi auri

It surely must be a very individual thing, depending on level of activity and amount of food eaten, a persons metabolism, hormone levels etc. Your situation is a little different as you have had a baby and a hysterectomy at the same time and your body has had a big upheaval hormonally as well as physically.

I have not even thought to weigh myself to be honest, but may have gained a few pounds as I have been quite inactive compared to usual. As I return to normal activities this will take care of itself.

Don't let your friends comments worry you, they should be glad you are healthy and well and never mind about the weight! The main thing is you are alive to tell the tale.

What do you want?

Because you can do whichever you want - gain OR lose whether you keep breastfeeding or not. The change in hormones can make it a little harder for some women, but let's face it, it's your eating habits and your lifestyle that will determine whether you gain or lose weight. If there are extenuating factors you just have to factor them in. I've lost over 40 lbs since my hysterectomy. On purpose. When I was breastfeeding I didn't make an effort to lose weight and found that at the two year mark my extra weight (wasn't all that much) just fell off. I nursed my toddler for another year and was slim and trim. Maybe just chasing her around helped.
