hormones after cancer

Hi every one, I've been reading through all of the posts to find some advice for my sister who also had a hysterectomy. Her reason was very different from mine. She had a malignant uterine tumor. It was apparently confined to the uterine wall with no evidence of cells in any of the 28 lymph nodes removed. However she is not able to take hormones because of the cancer. Her ovaries were removed to lower her estrogen and check them for cancer too. This was 1 1/2 years ago. Now she is having severe flashes and sweats, lasting hours. She has recently begun thyroid supplementation. Is black cohosh out of the question? Her doctor says no to herbal estrogen sources. Which of the following are most helpful? SSRI's, such as venlafaxine and prozac, effexor, gabapentin, megestrol acetate, licorice root, sarsaparilla, B complex, B6, Bellergal, Aldomet,Clonidine, and this mixture of phenobarbitol, ergotamine and tartrate. Is Bellergal the same as belladonna alkaloids? Thank you for your help. Barbara

hormones after cancer

Hi Barbara!

I'm so sorry to hear of your sisters surgery but glad to hear it was contained and she's doing well.

I also had my surgery due to cancer and am also unable to take hormones. I did as much reading and research both here on the site and numerous medical sites trying to find as much information as possible.

I took all that information and check each and every item with my Gyn Oncologist to see if any of them would work for me. There are some Dr's who are okay with taking supplements when there was cancer involved, others are not okay with it. Mine was not okay with it, including anything herbal and/or natural. Since he was the one who knew my particular situation, I agreed.

I'm now just about at the point where I "might" be able to begin taking something. I honestly don't know how I feel about that or if I'm going to or not.

I wish your sister the best in her search for answers and hope she'll check any ideas out with her Dr first. Oh, just a helpful hint, frozen veggies work well for the really bad ones, put on back of the neck.

thank you

Thanks for the veggies hint. I have used frozen peas on bruises, like the time i got hit by a golf ball. Barbara
