Low Malignant Potential Tumor

I just received my path report and learned that I have/had low malignant potential tumor(s). I'm meeting with the surgeon/oncologist next week, but has anyone heard of this? The nurse that called me with the results assured me it is NOT cancer and that I don't need treatment, but that these tumors can re-occur. I had a TAH/BSO with multiple biopsies/staging done on 1/31.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

God Bless!

I'm no expert on ovarian pathology. I have heard though that these tumors often require no follow-up. It does take some care though to get the right diagnosis. You might want to check out the Johns Hopkins website that their pathology department sponsors. Here's a link:

You are just two weeks post-hyst. I hope you are still taking good care of yourself.

A s for you!

Dorrie has some great advice. Diagnosing tumors of low malignant potential can be a tricky business. Johns Hopkins pathologists are considered experts with this type tumor. I hope you check out the web site Dorrie provided. I don't think it is that expensive for a second path opinion from them. Just have your tumor slides sent. You need not go in person.
Also please checkout the following web site. Another from the Hopkins site that will provide alot of info on your type tumor.

Best wishes and please keep in touch.

I know my slides were read three times before I got a fully accurate diagnosis. A JHU pathologist spoke with the other 2 to resolve differences of opinion and then spoke to me and my gyn onc by phone call. It was all paid for by insurance, but the fee for re-reading the pathology slides was not very high to begin with, and provided me with a lot of peace of mind.

I hope your doctor visit goes well.
