Back from the Neurosurgeon and back and bowels not related.. What next???

I posted on a previous page and wanted to post this to the wondeful people who replied to it and to all others maybe that have had the same experience or just a prayer and a hug.... I saw my neurosurgeon yesterday for my back and he told me my bladder and bowel incontinence do not have anything to do with by back. As far as by back goes, I have Degenerative disc disease and tears in 2 discs. NOW THE CONFUSING PART..... I know I have to have bladder sling surgery, but what about my bowels? The other doctors have really not checked by bowel except to tell me I have huge hemerroids. DUH!!! They never did an internal exam rectally. I am seeing a GYN and Urologist, so WHO needs to check it? I had the urodynamic test on my bladder and I KNOW it is stress incontinence and something else I did not quite get and I have a small bladder and my urethra is not closing like it should. I am at a loss with this bowel problem. I have to find a certain position to have a bowel movement and it is always soft stools so it is not like I am having constipation. In fact I go up to 3 times a day. I also have bowel incontinence. I cough and it just comes out sometimes I urinate and end up having a bowel movement without any sigh of needing to go. I am just so

If ANYONE has any advise I would really, really appreciate it!!!!

Thanks, Pam

Gastroenterologist

Hi Pam

I'm really sorry to hear of the problems you are having. It may be hard to sort things out, but I'm sure eventually you will.

I have bowel disease and the doctor who oversees that part of my body is a gastroenterologist. There are also doctors who specialize in the colon and rectum. Ask your PCP for a referral to the appropriate person.

Hope things get sorted out soon.

Joselle is right you will need to see a gastro DR, if your insurance requires it, you will need your PCP to refer to you. Don't get frustrated with the time period though, I will warn you some of them take 2 to 3 mos to get into to see(maybe that is just my area) but this what I found to be true. I was having pain and couldn't get an apptmt for a month.

Sorry you are dealing with so much dear, I hope you will get some solid answers for some of these issues real soon
