Is anyone else having problems with contact lenses? If so, how are you dealing with it? I've seen people mention general dry eyes but never contacts specifically. Although, I'm generally much happier on the V dot than Premarin my contacts are not. I did see "intolerance to contact lenses" as a side effect of Vivelle on medline. I don't mind my glasses but for things like exercise and when my sinuses are bothering me (HRT has exacerbated my allergies) I like to wear my lenses. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Leslie,
I noticed a problem with my contacts when I first began hormone therapy around a year and half ago. Although, I do believe that with the Premarin they are worse. Of course, if I used my eyedrops regularly, they might feel better. I have worn contacts for about seven years. I HATE to wear my bifocals! In any case, I think hormone replacement therapy does make your eyes more sensitive and the lenses feel dryer. Sometimes I have to take the contacts out earlier in the evening if they feel too dry, or take them out and clean them after work and put them back in until bedtime. Don't know if any of this helps, but at least you know you are not alone with contact problems!

how, specifically, are your contacts bothering you? estrogen tends to make the eyes change shape a little (fluid retention), just enough to make contacts feel terrible. i found adding progesterone to help with my eye problems. if you do a search on "dry eyes" many of the women who responded are contact wearers.

Thanks, the water retention part makes sense. My eyes were kind of dry pre-hyst anyway. I'm due for an eye exam soon. I will talk to the eye doc, maybe I need a different size contact.

if dry eyes are the problem, i had punctal (tear duct) plugs put in that are just terrific! ask your eye dr about them.

Hi,

I was recently switched from Premarin to Climara and Sarafem. I have noticed in the past couple of weeks that my contacts aren't the same as they were on the Premarin. Since I was switched they seem to get dryer and blurry at times. I guess maybe the change in hormones could be affecting them. It is a relief to know I am not alone.

Take care, xxoo Paula
