use of Depo Provera and Testerone for Endo

I had a TAH 3 years ago for endo and in 2001 had a colonoscopy, lapraoscopy and a lapraotomy all for reocurring endo. It is back once again and causes me a great deal of pain over the bladder area. My dr. on Monday gave me the options of either having another lap or taking a testerone shot every 6 weeks and a shot of depo every 12 weeks. I had my first shots and am wondering whether anyone else has done this treatment and did it help. I have read and heard many horror stories about depo provera. Any help or sharing of your experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My depo-provera experience...

Hi,

1 year ago I was started on Zoladex for severe and extensive endo following a laparoscopy. It is only approved for 6 months but I had good results. My doc then decided I should take Depo-Provera to keep me free from periods and pain. I had the first shot and ended up in the hospital with a severe allergic reaction (a statistical rarity). The weird part - the allergic reaction slowly developed over the 1st week after the shot to the point where the reaction became anaphylactic. My lower lip on the left side was swollen from the allergic reaction and still is - the shot was 6 months ago. I thought that after my hyster and the removal of my ovaries, the swelling in my lip would go down, but it hasn't. I have heard that some women experience the effects of 1 Depo-Provera shot for 9 to 12 months afterward.

That said, I have a friend who has been on Depo-Provera for endo symptoms for about 8 months (1 shot every 3 months) and she is getting relief from it but the length of pain relief is getting shorter between shots - it is losing its effectiveness. But, it has helped her pain immensely!

I really hope that these drugs work for you - each person's experience is different - and that you are pain free!

,
Sandra
