Moved an ovary!

Hi Ladies!

I have been diagnosed with stage IB cervical cancer, I am scheduled for a radical hyster on 2/26/03. During the surgery my gyn/on said that he was going to move one of my ovaries up, in case I might need radiation therapy afterwards. I was wondering if anyone else has had this done.

Thanks!

MOVED OVARY

I haven't had this done but the reason they would move it is to move it out of the area that they will be focusing the radiation to kill the cancer cells. I do wish you the best of luck during your surgery.

Moved an ovary!

I was supposed to have one of my ovaries moved, but my Gyn/Onc decided not to do it. As a result, I am having radiation and eventually my ovaries will lose the ability to produce estrogen. According to the Radiologist, this will happen in a few years. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure why my Gyn/Onc didn't do it.

You might want to find out from your Gyn/Onc if one ovary will be enough to supply enough estrogen in the event of Radiation.
It doesn't hurt to ask a lot of questions.
