pre-op panic

Hi Ladies ~

I'm waiting on insurance for the go (I'll know tueday) and I'm getting a bit nervous thinking about it all. I keep hearing horror stories about how bad the pain was after and how moody etc...

Just how bad is it the day after? Will I be like pudding as everyone is telling me???

The waiting and the worrying is the hardest part of the whole thing. The day after all depends on what you have done and how they do it. I had general anestesia (sp?) and an epidural for my surgery. The epidural stayed in until the next day. I felt no pain except for gas. Gas can be awful. Have some Gas X and Colase or Metamucil on hand for when you get home. After they took the epidural out they gave me Vicodin then two hours later Oxycodone. And so on every two hours. Then they tried to OD me with Percocets the next day. Switched to regular Tylenol and it was tolerable. There is an anti-imflamation drug that they injected into my IV. It started with a D, but I can't remember the name. That stuff was awesome. But they didn't tell me that I had to ask for it. I'll try to remember the name. But that could be taken along with the pills. After I came home, I alternated Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Took Vicodin at bed time for a bit. Did have mood problems. Had my ovaries removed. Massive menopause at 33! Changed my HRT three times until finding the right one. Some anti-depressants helped through the changes too. If you have a caring doctor and a good A-man, you will have good pain management. Lots of alternatives out there. Be sure to discuss this with your DR.

pre-op panic

The first day or two may be hard but you'll want to sleep a lot so keep taking the drugs the first week and enjoy laying around and having nothing to do but be waited on. You'll be in the hospital from 2 - 3 days. Once you get home you'll need to keep walking now and again. One lap around the house or to the potty for starters. Increase your walking every day. Do not lift anything. The most strenuous thing you will do is deciding what to eat for dinner. Keep stool softeners or something like citrucel on hand. You'll probably need it.
