What is you get your period?

This is probably the dumbest pre-op question yet, but I have to ask it: what happens if you get your period right before your scheduled surgery??

it's not a dumb question ... I've wondered the same thing; and have no answers.... will wait to see other's response

It is not a stupid or silly question. What I have gathered from discussions on this group is that most doctors will go ahead and do the surgery. I only saw one post where a doctor was going to cancel the surgery if the patient started her period. You can always ask your doctor though.

There are no dumb questions -- the only dumb thing would be not asking anything that occurs to you!

I had my period when I went for my surgery. I told the doctor when I called the day before with some other questions, even though I thought it wouldn't be meaningful. It wasn't. Right before surgery, I reminded him that I did still have a tampon in, since I didn't want to make a mess of every surface I was on pre-surgery.

There are definitely no dumb questions here! (And this is not the first time I have seen this particular question. In fact, I remember asking it myself!)

Most drs will do the surgery regardless. If that weren't the case, some of us would never have the surgery since some seem to have continuous periods!

I was supposed to start my last period the week of my surgery. My dr said she would do the surgery anyway, but was glad that I didn't start. I guess the stress threw me off & the last laugh was mine!

Hi, I just had my surgery this past monday and 2 hours before I had to check in, my period started! I told my Doctor and he said all the more reason to get this over with. Didn't seem to make a difference to him. Take care and wishing you well

I HAD MY SURGERY FEB 7.2003 MY PERIOD START FOUR DAY BEFORE MY SURGERY. AFTER SURGERY I KNEW A NEW LIFE WITHOUT BLEEDING FOR 18 DAYS.
