Thanks and night sweats

Thanks you to all of you who responded to my last post. This is a wonderful, supportive website.
I understand now how the diagnostic staging is done. My uterine cancer was a 1C and it was a stage 3, an aggressive cancer. I am starting radiation treatments next Tuesday. I am not doing chemo at this time.
I am 50 years old...isn't it crappy that you not only have to deal with having cancer, but also be submerged into instant menopause? I'm having the night sweats lately. My oncologist prescribed Efferex, which is an anti-depression. I'm not sure I want to deal with the side effects this medication might bring. He does not want to prescribe Estrogen at this time. Any suggestions?

Thanks and night sweats

Hi Mary!

Yeah, it does stink being thrown into instant menopause. I think I was one of the lucky ones who didn't get thrown in immediately, I didn't start getting the hot flashes or night sweats for a couple months after my surgery.

About the only thing I've found that works okay for me is not wearing socks to sleep. Hard since I've always been most comfy with wearing socks prior to this but now if I try to sleep in them I overheat. That along with layering seem to work ok.

During the really hot months if I couldn't get rid of the night sweats that way, frozen corn or peas work well on the back of the neck. Also, those cooler packs frozen wrapped in a towel placed under your neck work as well.

I hope this helps some. I'm sure the rest of the gals will be along with more ideas and I hope you'll be able to find some relief.

Night sweats

Mary, I am 56. I had TAH BSO 13 years ago. Started on Premarin the day after surgery, so didn't experience any menopause symptoms.

I stopped the Premarin suddenly when I got DCIS diagnosis last November and haven't taken any other HRT, etc. since. I did have night sweats regularly for a while and now maybe only occasionally. I don't have the good sound all-through-the-night sleep that I used to, but it is not bad. I haven't had any other menopause symptoms though.

Maybe try going without anything?

Mary D.
