TAH with hernia repair-anyone done this?

I am scheduled for a TAH with umbilical hernia repair on 3/7/03. I am just curious if the experience is any different with the hernia repair than with just a TAH. The general surgeon who is assisting has told me no lifting of anything heavier than 10 lbs. for 4 weeks due to the hernia repair, but is there anything else I should know?

Sounds good . . .

I had a large ventral hernia repaired on Friday of last week. It was a result of my TAH/BSO two years ago. I don't see that it would make your recovery any more difficult to have both of them done together. Of course the more you have done the more your body is going to feel a bit insulted, but the recovery period is about the same. In fact, not lifting for 4 weeks for the hernia won't matter much since you probaby shouldn't lift for about 6 weeks after your hysterectomy. You'll have all kinds of pains coming and going for awhile afterward but it shouldn't be real uncomfortable and it will be good to have them both over with.

TAH with hernia repair-anyone done this?

I to had a ventral/umblical hernia repair with my last surgery witch was an abdomninal LSO.

I am now almost 4 months post op and can say that the lifting thing will probably go a lot longer than 4 weeks. Even with just the Hyst like Joselle states it's normally 6-8. There are still times when I do to much that I can feel my hernia repair still has a bit to go.

As far as more pain than the hyst..with them being done together you should be just fine sweetie!! Remember tho...that because you are having a hernia repair, You will have to be an extra good princess!!!!
