I caught a COLD!!

I can't believe it!!! My hernia repair is just one week old today, everything has been going well, I'm a star in the healing department and BAM - I get a cold. I was just told not to cough for TWO MONTHS and now this!!! What to do?? Will I wreck everything????

I'm on a narcotic, a cough suppressant and decongestant, back on an anti-biotic (just when my yeast infection and Thrush were improving) and in fact I'm on so much medication my DH made me a chart to keep track of what I'm supposed to take when.

My surgeon just told me yesterday that coughing is like lifting a 5 gal pail of water. And you KNOW I'm not supposed to do that!! My chest hurts, I'm wheezy, my tummy hurts . . . .

I need some cyberhugs. And please that I don't wreck the good work my did!!!!

I caught a COLD!!

Hi Joselle

What an absolute bummer!!! Fancy telling you not to cough for 2 months (as if it's something you choose to do). Life is all about timing, and sometimes it's downright lousy.

Hope it's only an 'above the neck' cold and not a coughing one. Hang in there and keep sipping that water. At least that might help the coughing a bit. Take care now.

I caught a COLD!!

Joselle, many gentle s for you! I hope you won't be coughing with this cold. Do you have a tummy pillow handy just in case?

Make sure you let your DR know about the cold, OK?

Many hugs

Hi,
I'm so sorry you are going through this right after surgery. I had the horrible flu last weekend and was never so sick in my life. I was coughing and sneezing constantly, and my main problem right now is stress incontinence. I soaked pad after pad and felt I would never have any urine control again. My bladder sling surgery is scheduled for Feb. 26, I'm a nervous wreck and thank God the cold is finally getting better. Can you hold a tummy pillow to help brace yourself when you have to cough or sneeze, like surferbabe suggested? I sure hope you feel better soon.
Love, Light, Blessings

I caught a COLD!!

Joselle,
Perhaps you could call the surgeon for some advice on what to do when you start to cough. Holding a pillow against your tummy? Perhaps bending over and holding your tummy? I hope you feel better soon sweetie.

Doctor's advice . . .

I've seen my surgeon and my Family Physicain since I caught the cold. I didn't know it was going to be this bad when I saw the surgeon. He's the one who said not to cough but if I had to cough I should use cough suppressants and a binder. The next day I woke up coughing and worried that I was doing damage to my week old hernia repair. So I went off to my Family He's such a great guy. He prescribed more Dilaudid (narcotics help with pain and couging, of course), put me on another round of anti-biotics and a cough suppressant and expectorant. So now I'm back on Nystatin for the yeastie beasties and Canesten for the other yeast beasts. I'm so confused my DH made me a chart helping me know when to do what. Pills, syrups, mouthwashes, etc., etc. I have to say it's working. I still cough but it's more controlled and hopefully not damaging. Maybe this is just to remind me I need to take time to heal. I was feeling so good I kept forgetting to take care!

Omigosh. Life is funny sometimes. And I don't mean ha ha funny. That would hurt too much.
