I think my hair is leaving me

When I took a shower this morning, I had a whole comb full of hair. Does it come out this way? I just assumed it would come out in clumps that for sure I would know it was falling out. This was a whole clump of hair, but not from one spot, from all over. Not sure if I should go ahead and start shaving it or wait, cause this isn't really my hair leaving just yet!!

s Tammy

My hair did not come out in clumps either. Just a very heavy shedding from all over. If I ran my hands through it, my fingers were just filled with it. It made me feel very sad. After a few days of this heavy shedding, I decided enough was enough. At that point I just shaved it all off. And actually felt much better and more in control. I do think we all find our way of handling this when the time comes.
I never went completely, smoothly bald. There was always a very sparse growth, which I chose to keep shaved off.
Stay strong Tammy. You can do this. And we are always here for you.

Hair Fallout

When mine started, my scalp itched and I scratched and when my hand came away so did a bunch of hair. Then I ran my hand through another area and out came another bunch. That p.m. I went to the salon and had it buzzed very short. That way I didn't have a big mess all over--rest was small and came out in shower, etc. This is the hardest part of chemo I think.

I think my hair is leaving me

Oh Tammy,, I can definately relate to your feelings.

Loosing my hair was the very worst part for me even though Iwas totally prepared with wigs, scarfs, hats, and a large assortment of headgear. I had and still do have more stuff than some of the stores...

After my second treatment my hair also started falling out the way yours is. I cut my hair short but not a buzz. I just could not do that. As each day went on more and more thinned out until, one day, coming out of the shower, i knew that that was the end. The most devistating part for me was that it was also my last day of school and had to wear a wig. I was hoping that I would at least get thru the school year. It was not the worst thing and my students just thought that I got a haircut and style.

I was more of a wig person than a hat or scarf person (guess I was self conscious) but they looked great. My sons wedding was in September and I bought a new wig and no one knew I was wearing one!! In fact, some people that had not seem me in a while said, "At least you did not loose your hair". Well the laugh was on them.

September was also my last chemo treatment and it is now February. My hair is grown in. It grows in fully and not in clumps like it leaves!! I have had it cut and shaped and this week went and had it highlighted. It did however come back in black and curly. My hair was brown and straight. Oh well, a whole new me!!

Hand in there... All will be fine!

{{Tammy}}

I had the same experience as well when my hair started going. It was a real heavy shedding at first as well, then I cut it real short then buzzed it off with the shaver once it got too sparse, like Ellen the main reason for that was that it itched sooooo bad.

Like the others have said, how to handle this is such an individual decision. I most likely waited too long to buzz mine but I just wasn't ready to earlier.

's to you Tammy! Hang in there!

{{hugs}}

Okay another question about this hair thing...

once it started thining out, how long did it take before it was so bad (falling out :hair that you had to shave it off.

I want to shave it off, but from the regular person, my hair looks exactly like it always has. Even my BF can't tell I'm loosing my hair.

So before, I buzz it all off and shave it, I want to know about how much time does it usually take. Since as my Dr states I "haven't followed any rules" with my cancer, I hope it does fall out before I shave it and not stop and there I shaved it when I really didn't have to.

I sure myself with that last sentence, hope you can understand my early morning, no sleep, delirous posting.

Off to try to get some cause I sure am

I think my hair is leaving me

Hi again Tammy..

Hang in there...MY chemo was taxol and carboplatin and my hair started thinning after my second treatment and within the month, the big fallout occured. I did always have some hair, I was not totally bald, but not enough,for me to go out in public with.
We all hoped to be the one that will beat the odds and not have our hair fall out, but.....It did happen to all of us, just some a little later than others. I had very very thick hair so it did take a little longer. MY best friend, with very thin hair, would have lost hers immediately.
Keep in touch.

Tammy,

I'd ask my BF to tell me if and when the thinning is enough to warrent a cut - My hair just got very thin and I kept it short because it looked better that way.

I think my hair is leaving me

Just the thought of facing this keeps making me cry. Many, many wam hugs to everyone who's had to lose their hair.

My question: Should I cut my hair shorter now? It's longer than it's ever been (though only shoulder length), so it'd be easy enough to cut up a few inches. Is the shock lessened by shorter hair? Or is it just all the same shock? I know I will get to keep my hair for another month or two, so is there any way to lessen the pain of the fallout?
