Hormone levels

Does anyone know the parameters for increasing the dose of the vivelle dot patch and how long do you have to wait between increasing the dose? I would like to hear other women experiences on how long it took post op to get their hormones under control?

increases in hrt are usually done 1 increment at a time, every once in a while a dr will want to do a bigger jump. in the jungle we usually recommend waiting about 6 weeks between adjustments unless you are having severe symptoms---the final decisions are up to your dr and you together. your last question is a tough one...many women (they're not here in the jungle ) get their hrt right the first try...many women take longer, much longer...so this is a question with no concrete answer.

When was your surgery? What dose patch are you on? What are your symptoms? As Cynthia indicated, increases are usually done gradually. You want to be on the smallest dose possible. There isn't one set dose that works for everyone.

The timeframe will vary from woman to woman. Some women get it right the first time. For others it can take a bit longer. It took me about a year.

Hormone levels

Hi There,

I had my surgery 2 years ago & started with the V.Dot .05. Before my surgery I was on no HRT even though I had night sweats & hot flashes. They disappeared with the V.Dot but then down the road returned. My DR recommend before increasing my dose to change my patch EOD. That worked for a while but when they returned again she ordered blood work. My estrogen levels were low at 29 where a year before they were around 68. My dose is now at V.Dot .075 and all is fine for right now. I hope this helps & best of luck.

I was started on .075mg and now am on .15mg. vivelle dot. I am 42 yo with LAVH/BSO. Since I had endometrosis my doc. doesn't wish for me to go higher than this and would like me to eventually get down to .1mg. She states that with the .15mg I am at 3/4 of what my body was used to before the surgery. I tried to lower the dose once but was unsuccessful. I was not sleeping for days and was having hot flashes on the lower doses.
I still have hot flashes on the higher dose but I am able to sleep most nights. I have currently started lexapro to help me adjust to the hormone changes.

What an interesting thread. I had my TAH/BSO 15 months ago, used Vivelle Dot .1 mg for four months, V-Dot .05mg for four months, got off HRT entirely for four months, and returned to V-Dot .05mg three months ago when the hot flashes and joint pain became difficult. I've been back to fine these last three months, and then yesterday and today I've had very brief "warm flushes." I wonder if this is a signal I'll need to increase the dosage eventually? My family practice doctor was very surprised to hear my GYN had not ordered any hormone tests on me during these 15 months and urged me to suggest the tests to her. He said he didn't want to "step on her toes."
