I have a Question.

Hi, I hope this is the right site to past this. I will be having a TVH ovaries removed and rectocycle ,cycstocycle and floor repair. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 78. Has anyone heard or know anything about HRT safety with this backround?

Help, Joie

I have a Question.

Hi Joie!

I have seen some ladies where this type of family history played into their being able to take HRT or not. I believe alot depends on what age your mom was diagnosed. Just as a younger age of being diagnosed means your should be checked regularly yourself, some Dr's aren't comfortable with giving HRT to a person with a close family history.

The best thing to do is do as much research as you can and ask alot of questions. I'm sure your Dr will be able to shed some light on this for you.

I wish you the best for your upcoming surgery. May it be swift and uneventful for you.

I have a Question.

Joie:

If you take a look over on the Hormone Jungle, you'll find a lot of threads on the Jungle board and the No-Hormone Desert Oasis about this topic. Doing a search for "breast cancer" and "HRT" should net you quite a bit of information! Trish has written on this issue, and you may find some of her work at the pull-downs over there.

A lot may depend upon which type of cancer your mom had. Often the cancers that are found later in life, post menopausal, are not the estrogen-sensitive type. It is information that you should try to get, as it will help your doctor work with you to decide which way to go.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery, and how wise of you to do your research now!
