Would a surgery get cancelled for a yeast infection?

Why didn't I think of this? Why didn't* my internist think of it?? Last Monday, I went to see her because I had a sinus infection going on. I didn't want it to be a factor in my pre-op and surgery. Gave me a strong anti-boditic which I finished this morning.

Sinus thing gone...but I now have a yeast infection from the anti-boditic!!!!! Dang! She knew* I want the anti-boditic to clear up the sinuses before my surgery...why couldn't she remember that anti-boditics cause yeast infections!

My pre-op is tomorrow with the same internist (my clinic works that way...not the doctor doing the surgery, so no real questions answered tomorrow.) and I fear that she will stop my surgery.

Is there any way the surgery can still go on Monday? I really* can't have it delayed, I can't.

...sigh.....

Would a surgery get cancelled for a yeast infection?

I had a yeast infection before my surgery. Doctor gave me Diflucan and it cleared up. But I was still a week away from surgery. Ask your Doctor tommorrow for medication and what will happen with your scheduling.

I am with you, I know how miserable yeast infections can be. Take care and best wishes.

Would a surgery get cancelled for a yeast infection?

Hi there!

I agree with Linda - a heads up to your DR is in order. Hopefully your surgery won't get pushed back, but if it does, it's in your health's best interest.

I, too, had an infection and had to take something like diflucan but I don't remember what exactly it was.... but I, too had a week to get it cleared up before surgery.

I would doubt that your surgery would be cancelled. After all a yeast "infection" is NOT an infection- it's simply an imbalance of normal bacteria found in the vagina. Most likely, your internist wasn't concened.

Anyway, you can clear up the yeast problem in one day with Diflucan (pill form)
