Tommorrow I am going to gyno to complain about my unbearableP.M.S. I cant believe that one ovary can cause such a problem, I had endo so I am afraid to take any hrt,s but is the pill an hrt? I have acne, headaches, muscle and joint pain, cramps where I had a uterus and fallopian tube, fatique and severe depresssion for the week before I ovulate, I heard of a birth control pill that clears up acne , {I have had acne all my life,} but can we who had hysts take that? or will that feed more endo if she dint get it all, Is thier something else I can take to help with my p.m.s I never had pms untill about two years ago, I am now 40 and had my surgery three months ago for cervical cancer and endo.I hoped my pms would dissapear, that was the reason I went in to get an exsam, the pms and endo, the cancer was found and was her main concern. I cant understand why I still have all the symptoms and pain as if I had nothing done at all, its just no period now, although theterrible uterine cramps are gone and thats a blessing, but If I go through one more month of depression and back pain and fatique and have to call off work,I wll simply be suicidal!
any one on anything that works?

Hi tam I'm so sorry you're still feeling yucky every month! Yes, bcp's are sometimes used as HRT... your DR can advise you about whether you're a candidate to use them or not.

The trouble is, there is no one size fits all solution that works for everyone. Our bodies are all unique and individual, and we all require different levels of hormones to feel our best. So, what works for me (an estradiol patch and testosterone) could be an utter disaster for you (and would, because of your endo).

It's really important that you have a DR you can work with on this stuff. I hope your gyn can help you tomorrow... if not, maybe you can try another DR? Many ladies here have found that the DR who did their surgery is not the right one to work with on trying to get themselves back on an even keel afterwards. I work with both my gyn and my internist on HRT issues; other ladies might use their family DR.

I hope it goes well tomorrow... do post and let us know what your DR says, ok? And you might want to check with the ladies over in the No-Hormone Desert Oasis, also... that's where ladies who cannot or choose not to use HRT share information on what kinds of other therapies work for them.

Hang in there sweetie, things will get better!

I repeat my post elsewhere, I had forgotton about this post! but anyway, I went to my apt today and when I described my symptoms she told me that gyns dont use progesterone creams anymore they use anti depressants like paxil and prozac!
Icouldnt believe it! she says they prescribe women to take it two weeks of thier perios, the week before and the week of.
I just can cry at the thougt that all those years I suffered and all someone needed to do was tell me to try a progesterone cream for pms.well do you think I can still buy a progesterone cream and not do any damage? I will try the prozac, but I m so afraid of side effects. the creams sound like a dream cream!!! well let me know what you think,by the way she dint suggest any tests at all, she told me to go back to my primary care dr and have him give me a prescription for antidepressants. Its like Its normal to have to be so miserable a week out of the month. well here I go again.

Hi tam I'm sorry you ran into a brick wall there with your gyn today. How frustrating! Ya know, when we get these symptoms, it's not because our bodies are deficient in paxil or prozac... it's because we're deficient hormonally! While it's true that the antidepressants can provide symptom relief, I'm with you on being leery of using them that way without first trying to fix the real problem, that of hormone imbalance.

OTC progesterone cream can help some ladies. There are plenty of posts here from ladies who have found it to provide good relief from those pms-y symptoms. There is not much to be lost by trying it, if you want to go that route.

Another thing you could do is to consult a compounding pharmacist near you. Since your gyn told you to go back to your primary DR anyway, maybe it is time to find a primary care DR who is savvy about hormones and HRT?

To find a compounding pharmacist, you can either ask your local pharmacist where one is nearby (they will usually know) or you can go to and use their pharmacy locator... that has worked for lots of sisters here. Then just walk into the pharmacy at a non busy time and ask to speak with the compounding pharmacist. Explain your situation and your symptoms, ask for advice and ask if he/she can tell you which DRs in your area prescribe hormones through them. Then find out which of those DRs take your insurance, and you are in business!

Compounding pharmacists are generally very knowledgeable and only too willing to help. They can be a wonderful ally in figuring out this hormone stuff. Mine has been great! I hope you will give it a try and let us know what you find out.
