site for photos?

Okay, this is another bizarre question, but is there a medical site out there that might show photos of how a normal vagina is supposed to look? I have been checked for a prolapse lying down and while I can see something in there that to me looks like bulges both above and below just at the entrance I am wondering if this is just a "normal" anatomical thing. These are very obvious and I am sure a doctor wouldn't have overlooked them. I have to say I am overwhelming naive in this area....for one thing I didn't look down there at all before the hyst, so now I am at a loss to figure out what's normal.

Next link contains pics of:
Uterine (side view) - The anterior support (vaginal wall (pubocervical fascia) and the posterior wall (rectovaginal fascia)) are very supported. Most importantly, the uterus is perfectly suspended by the uterosacral ligaments.
Uterine Prolapse - The uterus begins to prolapse because of the broken uterosacral ligaments
Normal Support - vagina apex
Vaginal Vault Prolapse - Loss of support of the uterosacral ligaments

site for photos?

Thank you for these sites, but I can't seem to find exactly what I need among them. I think what I want are real photos of the outside detailed view of a healthy vulva, vagina. Any other medical sites that might be of help? Thanks!

Hi francgal,

I too have recently been looking for illustrations in order to check what is "normal" or not!

It is pretty disturbing to see some of the x rated results when you type vagina in google!!! Anyway I did find this one which is not offensive and might help.

I guess we are all verrrrry different down!

Good luck
Steph

PS Sheri I found some more great info on your sites too - thanks

Hi Francal -

As one also admitting that I wasn't too familiar with *that* part of my body pre-op, I thought I had some sort of prolapse post-op too. During recovery I put a mirror down there for some reason can't remember why. I just about freaked out when I saw what I saw !!!! I saw a huge "bulge" so I automatically thought the worst. I actually called my neighbor, she's a nurse, and went in to see my gyn/onc the next day. Turns out, to my total embarassment, that it was just swelling . I to have those "two bulges" that you are referring to. As always, it wouldn't hurt to call your doc just to make sure there isn't anything wrong.

Take care -
