Blood Clots

Hello Ladies,

I have a friend who had TAH with both ovaries removed last summer. She had to take those pills, I can't remember the name of it, but it is for hormones. She developed blood clots because of this and is currently on warfarin. Did anybody out here have this problem of blood clots forming because of hormone pills? If so, did you do anything to solve the problem or did you get any other effects from those pills?

Just collecting info from experienced ladies. She saw her doc about it and are working on it.

Thanks!

Blood Clots

This is so weird that I saw this post today! I am almost 7 weeks post op and started yesterday having this Pain like around my thigh but up high , I am so scared it can be a blood clot! I am on Premarin and have been since 4 days post op.My dr did tell me there is no higher risk of Blood clots being on it, but I am still nervous. It feels like a pulled muscle, but I cant imagine anything I did to pull or strain it.
How far after surgery was your friend when she discovered she had one? and what were her symptomss???
Thanks,,, Now a very worried POst OP Sister

Blood Clots

Hi

I'm not sure what the latest thinking on this subject is. Opinions have varied over the years and the risk of developing blood clots may depend on the kind of hormone or the dose, in addition to a woman's other risk factors.

When my told me what symptoms to watch for when I was at risk for blood clots there was nothing he said that would lead me to believe that the pain would feel like a pulled muscle. Do check with your doctor, Cher, but I don't think you should worry too much just yet,

Joselle

Blood Clots

Hi Cheryl Anne,

I'm sorry your friend had problems with her HRT. I believe that just like BCP's, there can always be a potential risk for the development of blood clots, though I think that the reality is a very small percentage. Certain things can increase the risk factors, such as smoking. You are being a good friend trying to help and do some research.

Cher....if you have any reason at all to suspect that you may have a blood clot, please contact your Dr. immediately or go to the emergency room. Blood clots can be fatal as they can travel to the heart and/or lungs. It is never anything to guess about. I'm not trying to alarm you, and it certainly may be something else and not a blood clot..but since you are having the concern and the worry, it definitely warrants having it checked out medically.

Best wishes and to all!

Blood Clots

I developed a blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) after my hysterectomy. Around 2 1/2 weeks post op I felt like I pulled a muscle in my right thigh. The pain got worse and I went to the ER. I was admitted and they administered heparin via IV. Once I was what they termed 'therapeutic' I was allowed to go home, but I had to take coumadin (warfarin) for a year following the clotting episode.

Any new pain should be brought to your doctor's attention. Please go to the ER, as the only way to determine if you have a clot is by having an ultrasound of the leg.

Do not rub the area that is painful. If you do have a clot, it could cause it or a part of it to travel, with potentially disastrous results.

If it is determined that it is, in fact, a blood clot, you will probably be taken off all HRT.

Best wishes,
