Question about reaccurances

I was diagnosed with a 3.5cm Adneocarcinoma high up in my cervix. A week later, I had a hysterectomy but my ovaries were left in. Luckily, the cancer had not spread to my lymph nodes (or even my uterus although that was removed). I guess my question is, where would a reaccurance occur? In the vagina? Is there anywhere else? I have to go in every 3 months for a pap smear. I guess I just want to be knowledgable when going back for my check ups.
Thanks!

Question about reaccurances

Hi there,

It's great that the cancer hadn't spread, that is awesome news! To try to answer your question, a recurrence is unlikely, but could occur in the vagina. Regular pap smears should detect it, but try not to worry too much. It sounds like your surgery got the cancer.

Cancer occurring anywhere other than the vagina would probably not be considered a recurrence since the type of cancer that would occur in the ovaries, etc. is not related to cervical cancer. I'm pretty sure that your risk of other types of cancer is the same as anyone else's.

Good luck to you!

Question about reaccurances

It is unlikley that you will have a reoccurance. . 3.5mm is early stage 1B. I assume that they did a radical hysterectomy. They will give you paps every 3 months for the first year. They are looking at the vaginal wall. I am glad that the nodes were clear. Good luck for a swift recovery.
