Has anyone kept Ovaries who has PCOS

Hi Everyone

I am having a TAH on Monday and was wondering if anyone who has PCOS has kept thier ovaries and if so what has happened.

Have you needed HRT therapy anyway or to they just do nothing?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks
Tina

Has anyone kept Ovaries who has PCOS

Hi Tina.

I also have had PCOS since age 14. I am now 30. I had a TVH on March 6th. I kept my ovaries. But since I am only 3 weeks post-op I can't tell you how my ovaries are doing yet. But since we have so much in common medically speaking as well as our ages, perhaps you would like to keep in touch and we can find out together how well our ovaries work post-operatively.

Wish i could have answered your question better.

Has anyone kept Ovaries who has PCOS

I am PCOS and kept my ovaries. Although i had them cleaned up when i had my TAH. Its been 8 weeks now. Im still on the spironolactone and BCP's (for the PCOS) since the surgery to help with hormones. I do occasionally get aches and pains but thankfully no more excruciating periods.

It has been 200X better so far.

I prob would have gotten my ovaries out if I were older. But the longer i can keep them the better

Thanks Debbie and Tammers

It is a relief to hear from you both. Debbie I would definitely like to keep in contact as we certainly do have a similar history.

How do we do that? I am only new to this thing.

Thanks again

Has anyone kept Ovaries who has PCOS

Yes, I had PCOS while in my mid 20's to mid 30's. Then the ovaries straightened out and I developed the fibroids that led to this surgery! Glad to have been able to hang on to my ovaries...it is great if you can, if they function, and if they don't cause you much pain. Voice your concerns to your doctor...maybe he or she can give you the reasoning that the decision is being made for you to keep yours.
