Hi All:

I am new to this site. I had a LAVH in 1998 and was left with one ovary. I am now going to have this ovary out because of recurrent ovarian cysts. I am getting sick once a month now. I also have had some adhesions in the past. I have had 7 surgeries since 1995. The last one was last May. I have decided that I can't take this anymore. The last ultrasound showed multiple ovarian cysts. I have had this problem for 10 years now and I am tired of this. I think it would be better to deal with menapause than this. I sure hope I am doing the right thing. At least with menapause I won't have to miss work cause I am so sick.

Hello and welcome! I'm glad you found us. There are several sisters here who've had their ovary/ies removed a while after their hyst... I'm sure they will be along to share.

As far as the surgical menopause goes, we'd love to have you over in the Hormone Jungle forum too... there is plenty of great info about symptoms and HRT's, assuming you will be OK to use them... if not, then we have the No-Hormone Desert Oasis forum to discuss non-hormonal remedies for menopausal symptoms.

Best of luck with your surgery and recovery, and I look forward to getting to know you better!
s,
-Linda

! Welcome to Hystersisters!!

I just wanted to send some your way. I totally understand the frustration with repeated ovarian cyst. My right ovary was cystic my entire adult life so I had it removed with my hyst in 9/2001. I began to have pain again about a year after the hyst and went back in for surgery on Feb 21st for what the GYN thought was an ovarian cyst on my left ovary. I was prepared as you are to have it removed because it had become a quality of life issue for me. I needed to work consistently and not need pain meds so I could function at a certain level. I was also concerned about the hormone stuff but realized I would have to deal with whatever came my way because I didn't want to deal with where I was at. During my surgery it was found that I had extensive adhesions and that the left ovary was not cystic at all but encased in adhesions so the GYN elected to keep it. I am kinda of in a waiting pattern right now due to returning pain so the GYN believes maybe the ovary could still be an issue

As ((Surferbabe)) suggested, the site has many forums that will be helpful for upcoming information and support you might need.

Best Wishes and er to you, please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hugs,
lenee
